You have 100mil and the mandate to start a paintball company - what do you do?

Do you start the perfect field?
Do you spend it all engineering the perfect 3way?
Do you hire an island and a bunch of helicopters and run the ultimate event?
Do you start a 15 man woodsball stock class league with a 90 million dollar prize pool?

    Talk to me, my peoples.

(and no, I have not won lotto, and no, I do not have 100mil, in case you're wondering)

      I love this idea
hell the comments alone from the hard core tournament players at just THE IDEA they cant shoot two cases of paint at a time loosing their minds, the ranting, raving and head exploding would be worth the price of admission.

Bring back the Angle Eye mask but add a feature that explodes when shot with paintballs.

I think I would probably start a field/store dedicated to classic paintball and heavily advertise using modern methods like targeted social media campaigns and such. Sell mechanical semi-auto and 5.5 bps caps as a “safer” more tactical alternative. Pay whatever’s left of AGD to make automag field rentals for me.

I would also do a regional tournament series for only mechanical blowback markers, no pneumatic triggers allowed. Then spend a million or two of that cash on the pharmaceutical equipment to make paintballs on site. We would have the freshest paint and the best margins on it.

Also I would have some hyperball and air all fields with lights and a cover over top because the Pacific Northwest is famously rainy and overcast, also a field I used to go to had Friday night play with lights and I loved it.

I would start my own paintball manufacturing business, specializing in larger 68 caliber paintballs. I would call them "Big Balls" and use part of the money to get rights to the AC/DC song "Big Balls" and use the song in advertisements like tv & radio commercials.

For $100,000,000 I'd set up a field on my own private Caribbean island, and then sit on the beach sipping daiquiris waiting for nobody to show up

I’d find a nice big abandoned hotel that i could snag cheap. I’d have whatever renovations/remodeling that would be needed in order to turn it into a gauntlet style fight your way to the top indoor field.

That actually sounds like a cool idea Gauntlet style game or theme.

Yeah there’s a hotel that i pass by a lot that’s been closed for years. Every time i see it i think how cool it would be to play somewhere like that.

In case you're wondering, I'd buy a few choice indoor locations in CBDs around the region, and set up indoor fields. Classy ones. I'd also put full service gyms and nice, high end espresso cafes on each location. I'd then run an indoor weeknight/lunchhour 50 cal hopperball social league for professionals.

You show up after work or during lunchtime, you do a 15 minute gym class HIIT warmup, get on the field and either do (sweaty) drills for 15 minutes or play a game (with respawns and objectives - standing around is for lazy people) vs another league team, and then do a 15 minute more HIIT and warmdown back in the gym. Like F45 or Crossfit but with team competition built in.

          Call fit SplatFit.

          Take over the world.

          But I'm weird like that.

Open a new field with an eye to become the new destination field in the country. Probably located in SoCal or Texas as both have good weather for most of the year, large population centers with high income, and strong player bases.

Majority of fields are themed around (ideally officially licensed tie-ins) existing FPS maps. Maps like Dust 2, Crash, Blood Gulch, etc. Yearly budget includes construction, rotating out different designs to promote new games and keep people coming back. Fields incorporate props, so you can play the proper game modes on maps, like Bomb defusal. An additional sell for corporate retreat/teambuilding type events since it's more goal-oriented. Ideally build a lot more fields than normal, mostly smaller-sized to accommodate smaller groups, 30-50 Max. Ups your labor cost for refs which isn't ideal, but it allows you to fine tune group experience level as well as better control the overall experience as we've all played on fields too small for the amount of players.

Every field is designed with streaming in mind, with wiring for remote cameras and a dedicated control room on site. This allows us to host league games and stream them on Twitch, Youtube, etc and build hype. We also regularly bring in big name streamers and influencers to generate additional clicks outside of our main base. We can also put live games up on screens in the staging areas. All fields are fully lit as well to allow for weekly league games after work. In a perfect world fields are built with additional entry/exits so they can flow seamlessly through each other for big games or when groups are too large for the field.

We build a dedicated tournament arena, for hosting a traditional pro league. The league is specifically designed for streaming, with every player equipped with a head or gun cam, in addition to the standard camera coverage. We use a fixed layout which allows us to create better graphics to help convey field positions and firing angles. Field would be sized for a classic 10-man game, but could be scaled down as needed.

I'd love to experiment with a form of BR if you could secure a big enough piece of land. An annual game, $1000 entry (Would probably need to be higher?), 100 player max. Sponsorship by the manufacturers, and ideally outside as well. Every player equipped with a camera. Majority of the markers on the field are standard Tippmanns level stuff, emeks and FS guns are a little more rare, crate drops are electros. When eliminated, every player gets to keep one piece of gear (or the eliminator gets to pick one from the body?) Winner gets trophy, bragging rights and whatever they collected. Cut body cam footage with regular footage for epic social media views.

Years ago, a friend and I dreamed up a similar-sounding endeavor. We designed fields as game maps, had an outdoor and indoor setup next to each other, with cool features in the indoor like piling into a 'SWAT' van, and then the game-start had us busting out the back door into the street scene... Ah the good ol' days, when dreams remain just dreams!

We thought all this stuff up during the pre-social media era, but we definitely had cameras, loudspeakers, and media as a focal point of our design. I like the direction you're going with the multimedia tie-ins.

I think I’d go the building a field route.

I’m thinking a medium to small sized out door field setup. Nothing too crazy or out of the ordinary but well thought out and setup. Rentals would be well sorted and cleaned emeks or eNMEys. Masks would be Empire helix thermals. There would be two “tanks”, they would be built off of Argo 6x6s and set up that they get taken out by shooting a tiny target on the side that both stops the gun from firing and flips up a sign on top to allow others too know it’s out of play. One tank for each team. Setup more specifically for those that are disabled but still want to be out there with the friends (I spent a year in a wheel chair due to a motorcycle accident and can attest that it sucked was not a lot I could get out and do). Equipment owners would be limited to running nothing but gravity feed loaders so no matter what you like to shoot it’s all a level playing field.

Additionally there would be a large 4 story building. Climate controlled and well lit. The main floor would be the main entrance/desk, change rooms/locker rooms/bathrooms, a full serve restaurant and maybe a pro shop.

But the top three floors I’m thinking more like escape rooms meet indoor paintball. the whole place would be set up with cameras. Two teams of 3 start at opposite ends of the top floor. There’s one TR50 revolver in each of the starting rooms. There loaded with only a single cylinder of 6 50cal powder rounds. You need to work as a team to search the floor for more ammo and a card key to unlock the door to floor two. Players who get shot are eliminated untill the next round but go to a “security room” where they can watch cameras and report to there team via two way radio. Thus weakening your search team but not leaving the eliminated player completely out of the action. Winner of the round is team that finds key card and unlocks the door. Floor two and three is same idea but different layouts, And each floor adds one more gun to the team. So much potential with this adding in lighting effects smoke and different locking doors. Additionally restaurant patrons could watch the cameras in their booths and potentially pay to trigger said effects.

High quality paintball manufacturing similar to what we got with the old RP Scherer upper level products but the company is dedicated to making paintballs. Design and build the business around providing consistent quality product with an efficient distribution model to ensure delivery of fresh paint.

Owned a paintball field before been there done that and I would rather play paintball then own a field (you never/rarely get to play is you are a responsible business owner)

Yeah owning or managing a field means you never get to play. I want something where I can go play and enjoy it.

I’d buy the Viewloader rights from GI and pay stupid money to produce translucent, colored Revvies out of something like cubic silicon nitride.

I've always wanted to try my hand at running a field. I'd try to cater to as many styles as I could. For starters maybe two fields for each play style- airball, hard bunker rec, small woods fields & a couple urban/CQB fields for magfed (could double as extra speedball fields). And then the tricky part- arranging them in a fashion that would work well for combining all of them for scenarios. Monthly pump and magfed days, offering pump rentals for those who don't own them. Probably the usual 98Cs for the main rental fleet.

Also maybe an open house every so often so I can educate people on the game & equipment. Paintball is not exactly popular here & there's a lot of misconceptions about it. (though misconceptions are probably everywhere...) Community charity projects, exhibition games at the local firemans' jamboree & thresherman's, etc. Lots of cross-promoting. My community is small enough where a lot of this is very doable (not as much red tape).

Above all, I'd go the extra mile to promote all play styles. No shaming others for how they play. FAMILY-FRIENDLY environment. Any money left over would be for local promoting and community projects & outreach. Do good for the community and people will remember you.
