I like the idea of "bring your semi and we will loan you a pump for free""but we all have electros and you guys only have pumps, this wont be fair"
(chuckling quietly) "we know"

Wow. When I started playing outlaw in '97, we all had semis. No one even mentioned pumps. I first played at an established field in late '99/early '00, and never saw anyone with a pump until 2002 or so. Semis were the rule in Southeast Michigan.“It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.” -Krishnamurti

Revisiting this: According to the signage, I wouldn't be able to bring a Colt SP1, but an M16A1 with full-auto capability would be fine? Got it.“It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.” -Krishnamurti

What gets me is they're advertising "reliving the experience of only being tagged once". Was this really an issue back in '93? I mean, compared to nowadays I'd say not, but the fact they advertised it in '93 puts it in a way different perspective IMO.

In 93 semis still had the reputation of being wild shooting unreliable gas hogs...and the guns too.
Back then, for many people who had been playing splat for years, the introduction of the semi was seen as gross, stupid, game ruining overkill. When I first shot a PMI-3 I thought it was hilarious. As in, I actually laughed. It was like the ED-209 of paintball guns. It’s not exactly a firepower issue. The game is played MUCH differently now. People just hide behind bunkers, shoot at stuff they can’t see, and when the shooting stops half the time they don’t even know if they hit the guy or if he ran out of paint or if he just got bored and left. That did not exist in the PGP days. Painting bunkers for hours...sort of dumb.
If you played baseball for 10 years and then some guy shows up with a turned aluminum bat that’s 6 feet long and 15” around...you’d complain too. And in paintball that crap is legal. Anything is legal. To put the brakes on anything would “harm the industry”. (Ever consider that maybe the opposite is true?)
So the game changed. Stock class is an attempt to get things back to that level.

If the noobs mom brought the checkbook, yeah. Money talks. If little Timmy thinks pumps are limp wristed grandpa stuff and he needs a Mag...then he needs a Mag.
$$$ was another factor. A good semi was $100-150 more than a good pump back then. If everyone in your neighborhood works for Ford then you’ll be shooting a lot more paint than if you live in a trailer park and it takes you a month to save up for a Trracer.

I understand what you guys are saying. I remember when 15.5 PSP ramp was a thing & yeah, I complained a bit about it. But to see it advertised back in '93 was just kinda mind-blowing for me. More so when I have no issue going up against mechs with a pump gun. But I see now- it's just the next evolutionary step being seen as overkill, like PSP ramp (IMO).
Good stuff.

You have people who will complain about anything, though.
And people who want to abolish/ban everything that they aren't personally comfortable with.
And then you have people who want to play some freaking paintball and are willing to rise to the occasion in order to do so... it's 2006 and you have a 25bps Angel, cool, I have a Tigershark... Let's play some ball.If you need to talk, I will listen. Leave a message and I will call you back as soon as I get it.

Dale Price (Paraplegic Turtles) has a YouTube channel with a lot of cool old paintball videos on it. One of them is an ad/infomercial for the auto response triggers for mags. They advertise them as being able to fire up to 13bps. This was also 1993 if I’m not mistaken. I actually think we’re living in pretty good times when 10.5 is the nearly universal tourney cap and a lot of fields use that for walk on. It has/could be worse.
And I’m all for pump/magfed/mech/stock games. I think those types of organized games are some of the most fun. You just can’t expect to play walk-on with whatever your favorite technical handicap is and not get outgunned a bit.
