Outside of Barrie? That place was great. Some of the most fun rec-ball layouts in the area.

Amazingly both of my 'home fields' are still open. Barrie Paintball and Wasaga Paintball. I haven't played at Barrie Paintball in a long time, though. No idea how it's changed.

Sgt. Splatters in Toronto owned Paintball City in Etobicoke and VEP in Vaughan, and I believe at this point all of them have changed ownership numerous times. I'm convinced Sgt. Splatters was a front for something, though. I worked at Paintball City for a summer and nothing ever made sense with that company.

The Utah paintball community is weird... It's almost entirely outlaw ball where I'm at, with 2 indoor fields ~30 minutes north of me. In the 10 years I've lived here, I've seen at least a half dozen outlaw fields die, one of the indoor fields bought the other, converted it to 50cal rental only. The other indoor field, which has slowly ostracized the actual paintball community in favor of grifting rentals, is now closed and attempting to sell/rent the building, though I don't think the local community really knows that yet.

There was an indoor field that opened much closer to me, that within 6 months moved to an outdoor location, and transitioned away from a full fledged field to rental only, again. They had an airball field that was only open by appointment, which really just meant when all the local teams decided to scrimmage before an event. That field has not been converted to a tactical field.

The store I previously worked for is slowly opening a field, which is currently airball only but will soon have a 10man hyperball field with plans of building out from there.

TL;DR, 3 of the 4 commercial fields in the area have either closed or gone rental only, and will in all likelihood close because of it. The 4th has a decent chance of survival because it's trying to diversify its client base.

I've seen quite a few fields come and go in the area of about 5 hours drive from my permanent address. And despite all this I still have about 6 healthy fields to visit in the STL Missouri area (Wacky Warriors East and West, Xtreme Paintball Park, Gateway, Adventure Valley, Wildcat Paintball, and One Nation Paintball).

But here's some of the fallen fields.

Shortest lived award definitely goes to "Mr. Big's Paintball" just outside Ft. Madison Iowa which was in business from February 2007 - December 2007... An indoor field, with bunkers made from hay bails wrapped in plastic...

They had one field only, and here's me standing in the middle for scale.

Next was Jokers Wild Paintball in Burlington IA. Went downhill and closed when one of the 2 owners died due to smoking related illness.
I last visited in 2010. It closed in 2014-15 I think.

Then I once played at a field called Okoboji Paintball, another Iowa field. Only played once in 2007. It was gone in 2009...

Was just an Xball field near the lake.

Back near to my house, was this Xball field out in the middle of a cornfield, called The Break. Existed probably 3 years. Don't have any good photos of the facility, just some action shots with my Ego.

In southern Missouri, was a nice field called "X Marks the Spot" paintball. Ran by a very nice older gentleman, it was the home field for Mizzou Paintball for a season. But the long drive meant we looked elsewhere eventually. Had a nice mix of airball and woodsball. Field operated from 2011-2014, Lebanon Missouri is a small town and there just wasn't enough traffic to support it.

Most recent to both open and close, was "J&J's Paintball" in Marshall Missouri. a passion project from the owner, Jason put a lot of work into that place from 2014-2018 when it operated. It actually didn't close due to lack of business, but from Jason's other main job becoming too demanding for him to also run a PB field, and he had to close it. They had a nice Hyperball field I loved.

There was an indoor field down in Taylor, MI that I'm pretty sure folded.

Damnit! The only thing that makes me homesick about Michigan were the good-to-awesome paintball fields all over the place.
          Fellow Michigander, I see!

Swan Creek Paintball is where I got into playing on a regulated field. Just outside of Saginaw, MI... I ended up inheriting the team name and website till I ran out of inventory and decided to let life take over.

Tri-City Paintball, also near Saginaw, they had to close and tried to reopen on their own property but the neighbors weren't having it so it went to the board and they got shutdown fast.

The first place I played here in Central Texas was the 30th Parallel in ‘96 or ‘97 and it was great, as far as I can remember it. Long gone.

I went to the Constant Action shop more than the field. Had mixed feelings on both . Same with Olympic Paintball’s store.

Favorite place back in the late 90s was the old Texas Paintball location. They had lots of great terrain and one 3v3 tournament held on a tiny, intense field. I have walked around the new location and it seems great. Expensive though, so haven’t played out there.

Played in a 5 story warehouse in Dallas that I am pretty sure is gone. Don’t remember exactly where or the name, just that it was next to a big overpass. That was awesome. Saw my first PTP micro there, in full nickel shiny. That is seared into my brain.

Im sure a lot of other places have come and gone in the area, but I was MIA from paintball from 2002-2010.

Three. Two where I started playing in New Mexico and one where I live now in Colorado. Now, for nostalgic story time...

The first one was my home field up in the mountains. A guy named Stan ran the whole thing. He owned a big, bright green 6x6 Dodge T-rex. You'd meet at his place early Saturday morning, get paint, co2, and hang out while others showed up and finished getting supplies. Then the entire group would make a little convoy of about 5 to 10 trucks to the field. It was down a dirt road, in a canyon, just past the ACTUAL shooting range. When in the "staging area" if you could call it that, gunshots could be heard in the distance.
I don't know exactly, but Stan had some sort of rights to be on the land we used. It wasn't his. Still, some makeshift bunkers were made from trees and the entire thing was just marked with flagged stakes in the ground. I had a blast playing there with my first Trracer that I ordered through Stan. I guess he could get ACI markers as a lot of other people had F4 Illustrators. I still would LOVE to find one in the crazy acid wash that Nish has.
Anyway, the field closed down when I was in high school since Stan moved to Utah. I had been playing for a couple years at that point.

Second field was in the "big" city of Albuquerque at a place called Hinkle Family Fun Center. This place was originally like a Dave and Busters but with putt-putt, go karts, and bumper boats. In the early 2000s they saw the paintball gaining interest and set up two fields; an airball field and a hyperball field. Both were pretty small, but still kind of fun. Played my first, and only tournament there with a Piranha Evo. Fun fact, it's actually in my avatar photo! I remember hearing about it closing after I left high school and I wasn't playing anymore and the recession hit.
But funny enough, after a quick Google, it looks like they have a different modern version up again! Maybe I'll go play for old times sake.

The last one was a chain of fields called The Paintball Park. It looks like the ones in California are all still going. The one here was a small indoor field. Half of their space was an urban corridor, and the other half was airball. There were never really many people there, and the paint they had was hard as a rock and would often bounce at the low velocity they needed for the small space. It lasted MAYBE a year. And that's being generous. It was a nice place to play on a Friday night in the middle of winter though!

I've been in AZ for five years. Life is way better for me out here. There are four fields within driving distance, so that's not bad.

Yeah, I've been in WI for 5, myself. 1 field in 20 minutes the other I'd go to is about an hour+ away. Close one is fpo and the long drive is byop. At least I've got options.

A few years ago I went to visit my first field , Dorset Paintball Games, which I helped build and ran as head ref. A few structures remain but most of the areas are justt shallow depressions. I left with a few souvenirs I found but did not dig up the thousands of 12grams buried in a pit.
