What’s in your Gear Bag?

I’m not talking about the run-of-the-mill stuff…

Most us have O-rings. spare lenses, tubes, hex keys, spare barrel socks etc. That stuff isn’t fun….I’m talking about the “oddball” stuff…

I’ll go first. Most of my stuff isn’t crazy, I’m sure there are a few of you with some real strange stuff (no judgment), but I always keep:

- a toothbrush (cleaning marker crevices)
- fabric medical tape and gauze
- electrical tape
- deodorant
- spare socks
- hand warmers

Hockey sock tape. It’s flexible tape that you use to tape on your shin pads in hockey. Great for those times you realize you’re too fat to do your pants up and they fall off when you run.

From personal experience it is very hard to play pump when you need to use a hand to hold up your pants. Those ain’t the balls you’re supposed to be shooting!

ankle braces - I broke myself years ago and really need them now
Burt's Bees lip balm - I hate chapped lips and tend to get a little dehydrated when I play
Glasses case - I tend to wear my glasses to the field but only need them if I need to read or do fine work so need a place to safely keep my glasses while playing

Snap ring pliers & nylon jaw pliers. Never know when something needs surgery of a more delicate sort.

Bug spray - gotta keep the mosquitoes away
Sunscreen - I burn easy
Loose change - in case you can't resist that tube steak at lunchtime
Electrical tape - for those times you forget a grip frame screw at home
Towel and extra shirt - makes those hot sweaty days a little nicer to go home from

I usually keep some tick repellent, glass cleaner and rags, fresh pair of socks, some hand warmers if it's really cold, spare parts (boards, regulators ect), anti fog spray or wipes, and this guy for the ride home

I have a bunch of different gear bags from body bag size to backpacks but I end up using construction garage garbage bags 90% of the time. Only cost me a bunch of soft gear at an event one time. Should have known better to leave it like I did.

But other then the usual stuff. Plexus is my jam for keeping the lenses clean and clear.

All my tools and fixin stuff goes in the tool box. In my toolbox I got some Anti Monkey Butt for the skin chandeliers, Various tapes and zip ties for making stuff stay put. bug spray and brasso cuz got to keep the brass gods happy. Sunscreen cuz I got that Ginger skin.

Allows, looks the other way samething just don’t get stupid. Playing drunk sucks anyway. Chilling with your boys after a good practice on a hot day cracking some cold ones priceless.

The policy at my home field is that you keep it in your car and don't break it out until your marker is put away for the day. The parking lot is right next to the staging area anyway. Hanging around a tailgate drinking beer is perfectly acceptable, but only so long as you're done playing. And they ask that you avoid getting photographed with booze and markers in the same picture. It's not a good look for the field online. They need to appeal to parents planning birthday parties, after all.

A cheap poncho for when storms roll in too quick.
Spare pant string. The kind that are used in gym shorts and paintball joggers.
Over the door hanger. Great to use on all sorts of things.
A lighter
Coozie
Surf changing mat for after playing.
Toothbrush
Small 1oz spray bottle with some water for cleaning

It's wonderful. A spot to get out of all the paint covered stuff and then just throw it in and wrap it up. No messy gear bag!

I use a dollar store blue tarp for that same purpose. It's like 3x6 or 4x6 or something along those lines, weighs nothing, and folds pretty flat.

For packing away stained, sweaty, muddy clothes, I just bring a contractor trash bag.

My buddy uses a piece of carpet like a square piece of floor mat. Keeps it in his trunk for changing always thought it was a good idea.
