Second midweek unboxing. This one doesn't have the same warm fuzzies as the cocker. If you're interested have a look.
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-paintball/edmonton/paintball/1595298694 $80 gets you a nice looking Phantom, along with a Spyder, halo, old dye mask and other misc stuff. He's down to ship but no PayPal :( I asked him about doing COD and he said yes but then I realized it's as secure as an EMT. Great deal if you're local. Sent from

Proto Rail (guessing 2011-ish) that I got off eBay for cheap because it had a dead circuit board. Fortuitously, the Proto SLG spare parts kit I bought a while back had three working UL SLG boards in it, and Dye continued to use that board for years in the Rail series even after discontinuing the SLG. Got the board installed and all wired up, seems to be working so far. I'll put some air in it this weekend and see if it slings paint. The clamping feedneck still has the screw/pin but is missing the lever. Anyone know of a good source for a replacement? If I can't find a replacement lever I'll probably just look for a hex cap screw in the correct size.
Unfortunately, the case the seller generously threw in absolutely reeks of cigarettes (as did the box). Hell, even the marker does. How do you even get aluminum and GRN to hold the smell of cigarettes? More importantly, how do you get the smell out? Working on this marker feels like riding around in a smoker's car, with that awful mix of old tobacco and cheap air fresheners trying to cover it up and failing miserably.
The Automag: Not as clumsy or random as an electro. An elegant marker for a more civilised age.

No, I've never noticed a smokey smell off that one, thankfully. It handles fragile paint surprisingly well for a mech. I have been shooting D3FY tournament grade the last few months and that cocker rarely blows up a ball. My mag hates the stuff and I get too many barrel breaks to use it. I've got a dust red CP barrel on the way from BrickHaus that should look perfect on that Trilogy.
I rubbed down that Rail last night with some isopropyl alcohol, which seems to have gotten the smell off the gun itself. The paper towel had a yellowish/brownish tinge afterwards. Damn that was gross.
But wait, there's more! The tale gets even stranger. The seller sent the marker in a beat up old laptop sleeve, but also tossed a nylon Proto case in the box (why not ship it in the actual case, I don't know). Hopefully, I can get the smell out of the case with a steam cleaner. Anyway, I unzip the case to start cleaning it and discover some lingerie wadded up inside. Yes, you read that correctly. Some kind of light pink cheap satin chemise. There must be a story behind that, but I doubt I'll ever know, and not sure I want to at any rate. I stuffed it in a ziplock bag. Thinking about just mailing it back to him with a note saying something like "I don't think you meant to send this."

Progress report: I got the board installed and wired up (maybe correctly, maybe not). It lights up but doesn't appear to be activating the solenoid. Couldn't get the gun to cycle while aired up with the eyes turned off. Probably should have gone ahead and tried it with some paint, but didn't think to do that when I couldn't get it to dry fire. I've noticed some odd behavior in which the board sometimes switches off when I turn the eyes off. The eyes do appear to work, as the LED goes solid red after the boot up cycle but will go solid green if I stick my finger in the feedneck to break the beam. I think I'll make a post in the Dye forum or Ask the Experts to see if anyone has any ideas. Maybe a dead capacitor?

Progress Report: Yep, it was a bad capacitor. Grabbed a replacement off eBay and wired it up. Success! The Rail cycles. There is an occasional slow leak when idle, but I suspect that may go away as o-rings break in. Taking it to the field this Saturday to see how it performs.

Got my Carbon shipment (finally) today. The SS IC barrel and SC headband. I am surprised how heavy the SS insert is. I won't probably be using it but I love the barrel.
