Grenade Launcher - anyone actually use these?

Picked up another X7 Phenom and it came with an under barrel “grenade launcher”. These are basically a pressurized “shell” that shoots a couple paintballs. I know airsoft like these things, but has anyone used it for paintball?

Given they’re basically the same idea as those Goblin solos/Deuces, it seems like a lot of weight to add to a marker. Just curious if they serve any use other than intimidating newbs and looking “kewl.”

The shells that shoot foam balls seem like they'd be better than the paintball/BB scatter shot ones.

Do Tagin rounds work in these launchers?

The best ones were known as "Thud Guns" and were made by Tom Cook at Adventure Games of Weare NH. Most could launch 100 rounds of .68 caliber with each shot. I saw a lot of hilarious action with these in the "Bridge Game" there. People literally getting hit with 50+ rounds as they tried to take the bridge. Pretty effective in dropping paint on you if you were in the bunkers there,

You nailed it. For these ones in particular at least. I feel like they were made for airsoft and then modified to work for paintball but the space requirements meant you can only fit a few paintballs in it.

There are legit launchers out there. Look up the JCS MKX for instance. Buddy of mine has one, it launches those small nerf footballs. We go to Oregon supergame every year and you have to have a launcher to take out tanks. They use a fishing net on each side to catch nerf footballs. At that game you can also shoot bunkers and take out everyone hiding behind it.

So there are some legit launchers and uses for them out there, they are just rare

I only saw a launcher used once at a scenario years ago. I was never big on scenario games they didn't ever seem to run right because getting paintball players to follow a plan is like herding cats.
