Agreed. I actually had this same discussion with someone just yesterday. Although, in their case it was an Etek (which certainly doesn't require an aftermarket barrel kit to shoot straight). To further illustrate this point, I've even 3D printed barrels before. These, by nature, are hardly mirror polished premium barrels. When I tested them with good paint, they shot just as well as any other barrel I own. The guy I was speaking with openly stated that he was getting a kit to make bad field paint shoot straight. It didn't seem right to sit back and watch him spend good money just to be disappointed later.

Though there are some really bad stock barrels out there. And kits definitely help with cockers & pumps. It really depends on the application. I'll use either a kit or an overbored 1-piece depending on what marker I'm using. For what it's worth, I think something other than the stock A-5 barrel is a good idea (for an A-5).

The one thing forums do best is project logs. You just can't do the build thread thing on FB or Reddit.

I'll admit I drank the Emek Kool-Aid as well. Does it have the class of a nice Cocker? Not even close. Then again, they're light, durable, and they shoot very well. The one thing about them though that would get downvoted into oblivion if I said it on Reddit is that they really are more difficult to tech than a Model 98 if something ever goes wrong though. A model 98 has all of three critical o-rings needed for it to function. An Emek has that many just on the bolt alone. So, for a new player, an Emek is great if they're cared for. But if they're the type of player who throws their gear in the closet when they get home, you really can't argue with a tried and true platform that's been in heavy use for more than twenty years.

I never go on Reddit anymore, and part of that is that I have difficulty taking anyone's opinion on a particular marker seriously if they don't have at least ten years in the game. That's why if I had an actual question, I would just ask here or ask the members of my paintball group. Having said that, I just drank the Emek Kool-Aid and bought one a day ago, so we'll see how that goes!

I agree with this sentiment. I generally use Reddit for looking at butts more than anything, but it's nice to see fresh material even if it's inundated with Emek circle jerking and posting about tournaments and guns that I don't really care about.

After coming back from my long hiatus, I ended up landing on Reddit for my main source of paintball posts because....it’s actually active! I came back and PBN was a ghost town, I’m not into FB, so what better source is there? I’ve lurked on here for a while before joining after the reboot, but even here I go back a couple of pages and I’m replying to threads that are two months old! 😱

Trial by fire? My second marker was a mech autococker, and I became a better tech after finally figuring it out. Then I bought a second one, and a third, and so on....

Agreed. I rarely go to Reddit, but yeah, back in the day PbN was waaaaaaay worse.
