Select fire spyder, maybe easier than you think

So in all my buying and selling I work on a ton of spyders. E framed are my favorite because they usually sell for a little extra. But I've had to replace a few switches in my time and I've always noticed that the trigger switch has 3 prongs on the back but only 2 are used.

So in thinking about this I realized the one that is used is the on switch, the other one may be an off switch. So the one that is used is telling the board when the switch is pressed and the unused one is telling, nothing, that the switch is released

But what if we told the board when the trigger was pressed AND released? You would have a spyder that would fire on the pull and then again on the release, in theory any way

So today I had one I was working on and decided to test this theory. I bridged the unused prong with the brown wire, and bingo Bango just like that, I have a select fire spyder.

Maybe not on this one but I want to control it with an on/off switch, not sure where to mount it yet though.

The only down side is when you turn on the select fire, it shoots once.

    Thoughts?

Oh I like that! An auto response mode Spyder. I have several Spyder E-frames laying around too...

Personally I'd use a toggle switch of some kind, I just find them very satisfying.

No issues from an engineering standpoint, all you're doing it utilizing the "normally closed" pole of the switch to activate the same firing sequence as the "normally open" pole.

Will cause issues if you ever want to use a different firing mode though as the board will always be receiving a "trigger pulled" signal. So like, if you put the board into full-auto, it'll be full auto no matter the trigger position. If you're just gonna do semi though, no problem.

Reminds me of the Rebound Mode on Scenario Dreams T boards. This would be really fun to shoot

Good point, I'll have to test if this is a momentary switch or continuous but I think you may be right

There was a write up in years past on this very thing. I forget where but I'll dig through files for you in order to locate it. There is sure to be some good information for you.

That would be awesome. I kind of figured I wasn't the first one to stumble across this idea. Really wondering if they used a switch and if so where they located it

I have used two "toggle" switches with the modification you suggest. One to turn off the release signal, and one for the "power on".

My question for you: Where does one find replacement switches?

                Best,

Definitely continuous, that's why it fires when you engage the "auto-response".

It was a common mod back in the day. I have an Imagine that I've been toying with the idea on. I already printed a blade style trigger and a feedneck adapter to accept a threaded Ion clamping feedneck.

I've had this bookmarked forever. It's information you've already posted.

Yep, quite a common mod back in the day when people were trying to increase the BPS at all costs. Well, perhaps at a low cost regarding this mod.

Even more fun - this mod also works with the rocking trigger frames, which makes the BPS rather ridiculous.

Maybe you could wire it to push button, so you have to hold it down in order to activate the autoresponse.

Connecting that pole on the trigger allowed for Auto-Response / Reactive fire. Shoots on pull and release, 2 shots. There was a guide a million years ago but most fields don't allow that setting so people stopped using it.

Would it work with the other modes? Like 3-shot burst, for instance. 3 shots on the pull, 3 shots on the release.

Nope, I think you could rig it to do semi, auto, or reactive only. The logic board on the e-triggers allowed for the additional settings. Hardwiring like that is very simplistic.
