    Hardshell Kneepad Recommendations

I'm looking at purchasing a new set of hardshell (waterproof outer layer, not necessarily hard plastic) kneepads. I play mostly in the woods and also in the winter so the ground is often damp at least. My current kneepads don't bend well with my knee and leave gaps that catch, snow, dirt, grass etc. Any recommendations for a pad that moves well with the knee? I'm considering sewing a pocket for Crye style kneepads into my BDU pants, but if there are any pads that go over the pants and work well those would be preferable.

Someone recommended knee pads using the new D3O material lots of companies are switching over to the material it’s superior to the current foams used. However they are a lil more pricy. My next set I’m going to give a Mtn bike Pair a try. I figure they need to be flexible enough to pedal a bike they will work great for paintball.

    How D3O works.

    I’m looking at these.

I’ve worn a pair of mountain bike pads under my pants for years. Work well, offer good protection from rocks and logs.

I'll be buying some of those D3Os soon to try out for mtb so I can try them on the field as well

Interesting, thanks Chuck I'll take a look.

In this case I am against under the pant knee pads because I want a layer that will prevent my pants from getting wet. If my pants were to come with a waterproof layer stitched into the knees already then I would look at those.

It’s a pretty cool product stays soft and hardens on impact. Lots of applications for it being used. I imagine it form fits very well making for a comfortable fit. The Downhill Mtn bike community swear by them. They come in both a hard shell exterior and soft range from $75 -$150 there are even elbow pads. I’m curious how it would react to a paintball hitting it. There’s a YouTube video of them dropping a stainless ball on the D30 material and it’s interesting the difference. I’m curious if it will stop a Paintball from breaking looks like it would better then the current offerings.
