    So what next...?

Any other obscure, unobtainable replacement part anyone needs?

For those that might have missed it, over in the Collector's Corner, an MCB'er dug out a cool old Mega-Z he'd had since dirt was still under warranty, but which turned out to leak rather badly. The problem was seal rot, which we're seeing a lot of these days- the O-rings and whatnot 'rot', turning to goo, or crumbling to powder.

Seeing as Montneel has been out of business since some time in the early Clinton Adminstration, replacements are nigh-impossible to find. And even if you do find some, they're as old as the ones you're replacing. I'd been asked before about making replacements, and as luck would have it, I'm a little ahead of my end-of-the-year clearing off of the tables, so I cracked open my own Mega-Z, took some measurements and... well, read the linked thread. It was kind of a fun little bit of light reverse-engineering.

... Thing is, this is one of those projects- I'm very good at coming up with these- that will likely never make any actual profit, or if it does, it'll be two or three years down the line.

You people are lucky I'm an enthusiast.

Now, since I clearly don't learn from my mistakes, what next? What other obscure part needs to be reproduced in order to keep some old marker working?

One YouTube commenter suggested Nelson cup seals. Those would be easy enough, except I thought CCI and LAPCO made those. Is there a size or style that's not as easily available?

Here on MCB, I know the ICE Epic is another- that oddball and unobtainable reg seal. I looked at an Epic last year, and couldn't find the seal, either. I did sketch some notes, however, for what might be a drop-in replacement, that uses conventional O-rings, but I was a bit too backed up to tackle that at the time. I'd love to take another crack at that, if anyone wants to loan me an otherwise complete Epic for a while.

    Anything else?

    Doc.

Doc, make an insert/sleeve that would go in a fatty striker Spyder body allowing a slim striker to be fitted.

This is something that was available back in the day. They were made of stainless but I'm curious if delrin would work? I'd purchase quite a few of them.

Not Polecat. They were in limited supply, made on demand, and available to those in the know. The sands of time have buried any information I've had on them. They became popular when the Millennium bodies were out, Millenniums being fatty striker bodies. At about the same time, the slim striker was taking off as the mainstay in Kingman's markers and those who had original Spyder bodies, Millies, Black Widows, or VLM's wanted a way to use the smaller, lighter striker.

I'm trying to recall markers I've passed over, because I was concerned I might be buying a leaking gun, with no source of parts to fix.

The Montneel Mega Z was definitely such a gun, that I nearly bought on ebay a couple times at least.

I only bought the Z-1 I have now, because I had confirmation from an trusted MCB seller it was leak free (which it was! )

Anyhow, due to recent events, the Mega Z is back on my wanted list!

Another gun I've wanted which has a bad rep for reliability is the Brass Eagle Nightmare.

The question is, is that pump a "Nightmare" due to unobtainium replacement parts, or just poor design? Or both!?

My understanding is it's a bit of both. I wanted one for years, but I'm happy I stuck with my Cobra after reading about the issues the Nightmare had. A working & non-leaking Nightmare is a rare thing to find.

I slaked my Nightmare thirst with an Apoc4lypse SpringPheed on my Phantom. All I really wanted was a rock-back nelson. XEMON is working on new versions of the Apoc4lypse product (I think).

I’ve owned or rebuilt for other people maybe 50+ Angel LCDs and 1 in 5 have had a broken spring perch off the breech rod. For some reason the LCD length rods have become very hard to find.

Maybe this project is beneath you but it would certainly help people out if you could make a batch of LCD rods.

I'll 3rd that. I've got my Tigershark as tricked out as it will go and the last upgrade I need is a velocity adjusting bolt. I'm pretty sure the Tigershark and Talon bolts are identical except the Tigershark has pump arm screw holes tapped in it and the Talon doesn't.

Gonna make that detent for my Sanchez body? woouulf might even buy a few for the kits he has

I've got a few ICD Freestyle bolt parts that could use some spares. Might even enquire with the FB group and see if we want multiples (or I could just hoard them).

LAPCO and CCI still have cup seals as well as ASP and ASP has both 6/32 & 8/32 threaded so Cup Seals would be a waste of your time IMHO.

A Lever Changer that screws into the standard CCI Drop-Out.
-That's actually a pretty cool idea. Pondering on it a bit, probably doable, but I can also see it being a good two inches longer than an ICD or old SI lever changer, and not necessarily any cheaper. What you'd save by not having to make as much of the body of the changer, you'd have to 'spend' on making it adapt and fit the drop-out changer.

That said, I may play with that idea more. I've been planning to try and incorporate a built-in lever changer into the Duke, and have a couple partial prototypes based on both the Micro-CA and the late-model ICD changer.

I like the idea but, that's more of an R&D part.
-What, you think I can't do R&D too? While the thread was mainly intended for 'unicorn' parts to get older guns back on the road, I certainly wouldn't turn down an idea for an all-new doodad.

I already have a long list of both new and repop bits that I'm very much hoping to finally shove through my machines this coming year, but some of those are based on what I, personally, would like to see and use. And I'm not exactly out on the cutting edge of styles and trends, y'know?

Considering pps is out of fast changers again. Id like to see a docs version of a sheridan fast change.
-Hum. That I might have to look into. I'm already playing with multi-lead threads- I have a run of ICD Freak backs in the works- so I might try a sample or two.

Doc, make an insert/sleeve that would go in a fatty striker Spyder body allowing a slim striker to be fitted.
-I seem to recall something about those, back in the day, but as I never really messed around with Spyders much, it really wasn't up on my radar. I have a couple of miscellaneous blowbacks around here somewhere, but I don't know sizes, compatibilities, etc. I'd need some help engineering such a thing. Happy to give it a shot, though.

Alternatively, how about a 'fat' striker that weighs the same as a 'slim' one? That might be easier to make, and potentially more long-term durable.

I am hoping to pick up your Aluminum VM68 side panels when I get mine, I don't know how readily available parts are to get that marker functioning but keeping it running like a well oiled machine is something important to me so if there's anything you can think of to help that process it gets my vote.
-The only thing I know of on the VM that's needed, are the hammer O-rings. I was given to understand that somebody had a good-sized run of specials made, and I'm not sure the setup I have for casting urethanes would work well trying to make O-rings.

The aluminum sideplates I thought would have at least some interest, but that's another one I'll probably never make a profit on. I've had those in the store for about two years now, and I think I've sold two sets. I assume everyone's replacing their broken ones with 3D printed parts.

Apart from that, what else? I have a run of Freak backs for the VM thread already in the works, and should go out with the next batch of anodizing. I believe Palmer's has detents, and I seem to recall at least one other person was 3D printing some...

Another gun I've wanted which has a bad rep for reliability is the Brass Eagle Nightmare.
-I know I was asked at one point for a Nightmare cup seal. I have one and a Cobra around here somewhere (they use more or less the same valve) and I've been meaning to crack them open to see. As I recall, it was a flat o-ring seal, which should be easy enough to punch from new material.

-Why would it be "beneath" me? I just spent a good chunk of the last two weeks, including part of Thanksgiving Day, reengineering a seal for a gun that's been obsolete since the Rodney King riots, and which uses a propellant that no field bothers to supply anyway.

I've been asked for LED/LCD breech door knobs, which I have on the list already. I can sure try giving the lock pins a go, though I only have an LED and an LCD on hand to physically measure from.

Vertical adapters for ICD Bushmasters and Spyder EM1's are regularly asked for in various circles. I would purchase a few of them.
-I made a few of the Bushmaster ones back in the day, to convert to a regular ASA thread, but as I recall, at least two or three other shops started mass-producing them.

If somebody can loan me a Bushy to measure from, I'd be happy to give that one a shot, too.

Velocity adjustable bolt for the BE Talon?
-Only if you can find me a complete, unbroken, actually-functional Talon.

B2K vertical adapters, or even a copy of the zeni kick-out vertical adapter.
          -"Kick out"?

Gonna make that detent for my Sanchez body?
-Oh, I forgot about that. I'll need one, and possibly the body, to measure and fit, but I don't see why not.

LAPCO and CCI still have cup seals as well as ASP and ASP has both 6/32 & 8/32 threaded so Cup Seals would be a waste of your time IMHO.
-I was fairly certain that market was already pretty well covered.

Other bits: I'm told the breech door seal for the newer A1 Angels are needed. Been planning on dusting off my A1 to have a look.

As I've been molding more Montneel bumpers, I've been running a few more Equalizer rectangular seals. Been meaning to put together a "rebuild kit" of those, too.

Weren't there some rammer-bumpers needed for Intimidators? The little mushroom bits? Or are those easy to 3D print?

          What else is out there?

              Model98 Platinum vertical ASA.

On the latest incarnation of the old workhorse they switched to a non-standard hose that doubles as a valve retainer. So the hose has a long non-tapered thread that goes through a big nut in-between the clamshells and pushes up against the valve body. So the classic 98 verts don't fit, you can't improvise with a spyder vert, you can't even change out the hose to a longer or shorter one. Only thing that works is a special vertical adaptor they only included with a full expansion chamber kit and they only made it for a short time. Thus it's gotten really rare and hard to find.
