I just ordered some Formula 13 paintballs from ANSGear, and I got total crap. Packaging and shipping was great, as usual from them. Only one broken paintball in 8 bags, which is easily dealt with. But the paintballs themselves were oval, ranging from 0.640 to 0.710. It wasn't all the paint. Most was pretty good. But I would estimate about 10% was severely out of spec. Plus I got a few laughably bad undersized balls (smallest one I found was 0.580), and there were balls that got glued together. If I hadn't looked at the paintballs before pouring them into my hopper, those glued balls would have never even made it into the gun. They would have just jammed up in the loader and stopped my game short.
ANSGear is being great about it. They're replacing the paintballs with an upgrade, free of charge.
I do think this is a weird fluke and not indicative of Empire paintballs as a whole. I've bought Formula 13 in the past and been very happy with them. They're usually a solid mid-tier choice with harder shells and round balls. Great for woodsball. I'm guessing someone in quality control must have been napping on the job, though, so maybe skip this choice for a while unless you can open up the bags to inspect the paintballs before you buy.
