avoid Formula 13 paintballs for now?

I just ordered some Formula 13 paintballs from ANSGear, and I got total crap. Packaging and shipping was great, as usual from them. Only one broken paintball in 8 bags, which is easily dealt with. But the paintballs themselves were oval, ranging from 0.640 to 0.710. It wasn't all the paint. Most was pretty good. But I would estimate about 10% was severely out of spec. Plus I got a few laughably bad undersized balls (smallest one I found was 0.580), and there were balls that got glued together. If I hadn't looked at the paintballs before pouring them into my hopper, those glued balls would have never even made it into the gun. They would have just jammed up in the loader and stopped my game short.

ANSGear is being great about it. They're replacing the paintballs with an upgrade, free of charge.

I do think this is a weird fluke and not indicative of Empire paintballs as a whole. I've bought Formula 13 in the past and been very happy with them. They're usually a solid mid-tier choice with harder shells and round balls. Great for woodsball. I'm guessing someone in quality control must have been napping on the job, though, so maybe skip this choice for a while unless you can open up the bags to inspect the paintballs before you buy.

I recently got some empire marbs that were huge! They won't fit in my largest .695 insert. But I also picked up some empire premium and its some of the best paint I've shot in a while. Super consistent size, perfectly round, and nice dense vibrant fill. If you're shooting those this weekend I think ill have a good chance of not getting hit! 😁

Nice. That's what ANS is sending me to replace the Formula 13. It won't be here in time for this Saturday, but we'll get to use it next time.

Maybe you're on to a new playstyle. Instead of handicapping the amount of paint carried or the BPS everyone just has to use shitty out of round paint.

isn't that what we've been doing since RPS went under?

Jonnydread I wish we could "like" comments. This is so true.

I've had some luck with Empire Evil a couple years ago, but everything else pales in comparison to RPS.

That could be pretty funny. I might save it for the last game of the day. Whoever doesn't break paint in the barrel wins.

I usually buy Valken Graffiti, which is decent. My only problem with that paint is dimples. Unfortunately they're sold out of that right now, so it was either order paint from another company I don't have experience with or order something else that was in stock. I chose poorly.

There's other good paint out there too. No cheap paint, sadly. But I've recently shot D3fy Reliant, HK Supreme, GI X-Ball...all were pretty good. I also got to try WPN Elixir recently, which I really liked. Darn near perfect roundness and quality. No dimples whatsoever. But sadly they only sell one color shell that's dark blue, which is pretty useless to me since I play mostly woodsball. I need something brighter for those long-ball shots.

Granted, I'm part of a small club, and we get to choose which paint to buy instead of using whatever's at the local field. We have to order online and deal with all that hassle, but at least we have some choice in the matter.

We just call that Wasaga Beach Adventure Park around here.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: β€œI shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

β€œBut Lord,” asked Gabriel, β€œIs this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, β€œJust wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."
