The state of the pump market in 2023

So... what are the options now for someone who wants a pump gun? Correct if I'm wrong, but this is what we're at now:

CCM: They produce very few guns, which are 'scalped' online right away. You can't just call them or order online like you would for any other shop

Inception Design: They carry cocker parts, I'd think they can still custom build guns on order but there's no clear mention of that on their website

    CCI/EV: Up and running

Azodin: There's the KPC+ but it seems like it isn't being actively produced anymore?

Would the above be accurate? Am I missing a 'boutique' shop that still builds pumps?

I already have one, but I was just wondering about what are the options out there right now. Seems to me that the only really active manufacturer is EV, which seems odd. I get it that it is a niche market (pump) within a niche market (mechanical) within a niche market (paintball), but still.

Inception is mostly doing stuff for PE guns and barrel kits at this point as that stuff is flying off the shelves.

Nova says they have a pump in the works, maybe on the market by the end of the year.

Used market is strong as is converting cockers.

Inception hasn't made a Cocker or Sniper for over a year, probably closer to two years at this point. CCM on rare occasions will post a gun on Ebay store or website.

I say buy a used CCI Phantom and/or build yourself a Sniper these days.

        Edit for an additional thought:
Have it milled! Jake (Bearded Works), Mozak Machine, Jason Antle and others offer custom machine work for cocker bodies. Build a sniper that nobody else has just to your liking!

Custom is one way to go for sure.
Another route alot of people miss is empire snipers. They really are a great platform. There are some things i would change on them out of the gate to put them into a different level, but they do work.

I wish i had more free time to do all of the projects i have in my head, but that will never happen. I have started modding trilogies for a few reasons. They are cheap, once they are minied it opens up the gateway for other parts, pretty much all other parts in fact.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfotYTnEXa0&t=81s
down side is it becomes a mini which will require a mini pump kit. Although i think inception and autocockerparts keep those in stock.

The empire sniper is discontinued now isn’t it. Yeah autockerparts has Trilly Slice kits they make great pumps. I built one for a friend about a year ago. It shot really nice.

Yeah the Sniper was a great platform. You got a lot of value at that price. I ran one for a while, with some ID parts (hammer and pump rod), and it shot amazingly. The only thing I didn't like about it was that removing the stock reg was finicky, it wasn't that good in the first place, and auto trigger rod would sometimes become come undone from the rod. But otherwise it was solid.

There are lots of options when you look at the custom cocker market. Currently building your own has never made more sense.

The Used CCM market is crazy they become cool to own so naturally the scalpers started buying them up. I still think they are one of the best pumps made. However there are great options out there today. Mozak’s frames are awesome he’s got some cool cuts for classic body’s and his Vert side feeds are Sick. Ryan Jamison’s fit and finish are 2nd to none. Lots of little details he dose on his builds that make them stand out. They are often sent to top notch Ano artist to be completed. Doc and his wicked double barrel builds. Angry A is doing some wild body’s.

I would still use CCM’s pump kit or a Slice Guide rod kit with an ODM handle. I like CCM lower tube kits but you can play with springs and get 90% of the feel with any good valve and hammer combo w/ well balanced springs. I like bolts without orings on my pumps I find them smoother.

Hell You can build a beautiful pump for what someone is trying to sell a Gmax 86 frame for. Hell I payed $150 less for a complete CCM J2L.

I have a large CCM collection but I purchased them all pre inflation. Today I would just build my own you can build a complete custom one for less at this point. I haven’t purchased a CCM in a long time and won’t unless they start producing them again. If I feel the need for another pump would probably but one of Ryan’s builds and put a CCM pump kit on it and call it a day. Unless I can get my hands on an Angry Peckerwood..

These CCM prices got me wanting to part stuff out and build something crazy tho.

Oh forgot about these. (The KP3) these actually shoot really nice especially for the money. They still make theses right. Looks like they even got one with AT now if that’s your thing. But I have shot the KP3 and it’s a dam nice marker and shoots and feels like a high end pump.

The Gmax frame is a pain because trigger guard sits closer to the reg. You then need to remove the frame to get the reg to spin off to clean it. Or remove the fitting and then reseal it. The newer frames don’t require you to do this and the screws are hidden in the frame and take standard button head screws not specialty step type exposed mount screws. I had an early S6 with a Gmax and it was a pain to work on due to the frame design. If people pay extra for them it’s a made up Facebook thing. I definitely wouldn’t pay extra, I would avoid them.

Guess this guy doesn't want it in anymore, but he's actually asking _less_ than he paid, by a whole $25

That’s actually a sweet marker tho with the custom Ano. I want the Red and Black Acid wash one tho. But so hard to justify cuz I could just send one of mine out for to FX for way less. I give him credit for not gouging tho and being that guy. He’s also had that a few years at least I don’t think he intended to flip it. + Fees and Tax unfortunately with EBay

Not anymore we bought them out and according to them Sterling hasn’t gotten back to them about getting more. So seems like powerball ghosts everyone not just US customers. They might have a few Bronze in stock still but all the SC- STP are gone. I was hoping they would get some more colors in.

Jayster covered EV. But at the moment the Phantom is probably the best out of the box off the shelf pump you can purchase new right now. 100% the best pump to play all forms of paintball it dose everything well.

PinnaclePOV I'm sure may hardcore pumpers would feel the same way about high-end electros. Different strokes.

But I agree that the Phantom doesn't do everything well. They are breech drop (as opposed to bore drop), have a super stiff pump stroke, and aren't always user-friendly unless you get the ASP detent mod or otherwise go out of your way to deal with small paint. I've owned 3 of them & ended up selling them. I'd take my Trracer over a Phantom any day. Fantastic paintguns, to be sure. And their modular design is second to none. But they're not for me. Different strokes.

Hey you don't have to go to me, there's plenty of builders that have been here long before me, and even after me. Someone had to say it though. I have plenty of work, so that market is still somewhat alive, even if it's on MCB life support.

              #15
To my knowledge, the only real options that are readily available brand-new are the KP3 & Phantom.

The only other relatively inexpensive option is to convert a cocker (used, mind you), but if you add aftermarket parts even that can get pricey.

Then there's the usual suspects on the used market. Nelson clones, snipers, brass, etc.

Price is always a factor to me, and these are the only realistic options if you aren't willing to shell out for a custom build or a CCM.
