Building your own marker and custom work is all well and good, but as PinnaclePOV pointed out, aside from the KPC+ (and even then is it still sold??) there are no ready-to-play, newb-friendly and affordable options out there. I think the Azodin pumps and the Empire Sniper (for those we wanted to get something nicer) filled that niche very well.

What happens is this: a LOT of people are mesmerized by my Phantom. Whenever I used it, I get a ton and a quarter of questions about it. The large bulk of the players I see at the various fields I go to are casual players. They want easy, off-the-shelves solutions and I don't blame them.

Come to think of it, many are magfed players. When they see what open-class pump play is like, many are are drawn to it because while you keep the challenge and the low ammo aspect, you get constant air and a steady stream of paintballs. So when they ask 'ok where can I get one for cheap?' my answer is either order from EV or find a used marker (Sniper, Azodin, etc.). If were to tell them 'you need to forage for parts and build one' that would be a surefire way to turn them away from pumps.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe there's a revised version of the Thumper coming out too.

I wish we could make our own pump gun. We have so many talented airsmiths here. Discuss

Those who can build them already are. Since they’re one man operations, what they build tend to be handcrafted one-off builds.

Part of the problem is figuring out what the market will support. CCM obviously has garnered enough attention to command their prices; EV has cranked the price higher on the Phantom but still sells them. Is a $500 pump going to sell like hotcakes? A $1000 pump? Obviously nobody's buying a KPC for $1000, but there aren't many data points in between.

I’d agree the lack of options at the low and medium end hurts pump. Not sure how many new players will go and pick up a used piece together marker. They just don’t know enough about it. Having something like an Empire a Sniper was a nice off the shelf option that set a new player up well. Few new pump players are going to shell out of CCMs or Phantoms over cost.

Kind of makes you wonder why Spyder never came out with an Azodin-style pump marker. The platform is capable of it. Even if someone made a commercially available spyder pump kit there are a huge amount of bodies out there.

I was told at an Azodin booth way back in the day that a handful of machinists that work for or with Kingman/Spyder were unhappy with the way they were treated and left to form their own company. That was not from an Azodin employee, though. So that might just be hearsay.

Wasn't Kingman a Taiwanese company, making the markers there?
