    Grabcad

Found a part on grabcad and am interested in having one or two made up. Does anyone know of a a decent machinist that does small batches? I believe there are many online options. Anyone used one before?

I use Xometry when my local shops can't handle it. They're decent, but it's typically pretty high setup charges. We dropped several hundred dollars on glorified shaft collar once because everyone was adamant we'd only ever need one.

Oh... and you better have your prints right if there are any tolerances of interest. Otherwise it's going to be quite the gamble, since you never know who's supplying.

Interesting, the tolerances are concerning. Not sure how to verify those off of a cad. I am not a expert

I'm not sure what grabcad gives you. If it's just a 3d model you may have issues getting a shop to make something off of that. Most shops are going to want detailed "drawings" or "prints". This is where the dimensions are presented with tolerances. The tolerances basically tell the shop how close they have to hit the dimensions. Tighter tolerances = more $... so it pays to know what is critical and what isn't so critical.

Can you get away with 3d printing the pieces? May be more affordable than a small machine run. Plus you don’t need detail drawings just a Stl file of the 3d model.

It would be useful to know exactly what model you’re looking to get made from GrabCAD.
