Around here I'd probably have to be the dedicated pump guy and team organizer if I wanted it to go anywhere. Pumpers are few and far between.

It's a cool idea, and I like the idea of varying fire power/mobility. As long as nobody is going out with 13 pods and ripping lanes the whole time.

If there’s only one electro per side that phenomena basically couldn’t exist. Two electros properly coordinated can be unstoppable but one gun is still just one gun and the faster you shoot the faster you’re out of paint.

My idea of the game would be that OC pumpers would control most of the action with stockers being flag runners and the electro being a sort of tank that the rest of the team directs and supplies with paint and air.

Two Desert Eagles, two M16s, one M60. That sort of dynamic.

This breakdown of marker type makes more sense to me. Putting in heavy electros and light pump seems like a fairly obvious outcome. I don’t think paint needs to be limited, however. In my mind, if you’re going to handicap the electro player, it’s kind of like… why bother having them?

        5 man:

        2x pump
        2x mech
        1 Electro

I think I'm going to be the odd man out here but, I've long had the idea that a mixed-projectile game would be very fun and interesting to play.
Something like (for a 5v5 match, on a large field):
          • 1 FS Shooter with a 10rds
          • 1 .68 Shooter (roundball) with 300rds and an Apex
          • 3 .50 (FS) shooters with 30rds each
          • Full Auto / Ramping allowed for everyone

For a long long time, I've noodled around the idea of a WWI scenario where 95% of players use stock class, with a couple "heavy machine guns" mixed in. Ideally played on extensive trench fields, of course, with some provision for artillery, gas, and other period horrors

The problem I always come to is the number of players who would be interested in something like this, and have the patience for a fairly complicated ruleset, versus the ones who just want to run and gun with PSP ramping or whatever

I volunteer to play stock class, although I got stuck in an enclosed bunker with a smoke grenade once and don't plan to relive that experience haha

If there were some sort of pump rental, I’d be all for something like this. I just wouldn’t want to invest in a new gun just for it though.

3-Man, 3 Battery. Your team has 3 battery points. A battery powered gun counts as one. A loader is one. Figure it out.

Mag-fed players are allowed unlimited mags, pump players have unlimited 10 rd tubes (all non-transferable, and cannot be taped together). Otherwise, the team is allowed a single pod, plus an additional pod for every pump gun or magfed gun. Pods may be assigned to any player and transferred at any time while a player is live. This should incentivize pumps/mag-fed over just mech semi.

Ok, beyond dream League scenarios, what do you guys think you could ACTUALLY put together at your local field though? Remember, you'll need multiple teams

3 mech blowbacks, 1 electro and MAYBE 1 pump I think would be reasonable to actually be achievable in my area. It might end up with 3 blowbacks and 1 mech non blowback instead of the pump though

Even that though, I'd be worried about the electro because the average blowback player around me has very little experience so the electro might be limited to hopper+1 pod just so they are not holding lanes

Having an electro and then capping it in any way makes zero sense to me.

I see conversations about alternate/mix formats come up, but nothing ever gets done about it. Why don't we actually create like an "MCBXF League" (Xross format... just spitballing here lol), make consistent rulesets, work with local fields, run regional games, make it appealing for travel to each game with airball vs hyperball vs woods vs indoor vs etc..., keep the leaderboards alive here, ..., Profit?

I really like this idea too, I had mentioned something similar a little bit ago on reddit. I think I had something along the lines of some stock class pumps, some open class pumps, and then capped electros or mechs with a paint limit. I have never been a bit fan of airball play but it's fine to watch, however watching snake players go running in with 7-10 pods is just ridiculous. Everyone is shooting like a back player now and it's just boring.

I kinda feel the same way! I think once center flag was gone it took away the appeal of snake players

Profit, the powers that be like the powers they be, people don't want more barriers to entry. They just want to use the equipment that have to complete with, not have to worry about new rules, enforcement, gear, even more confused refs.

How would leaderboards work if this is going to be something that accessable to the average player? They won't be able to fly cross country to compete.

The way I'm thinking of it, it's literally grabbing random players at the local field and saying hey, come back on X day. We are running a mixed format game and you are invited

Seems like some people are thinking of this in terms of big league play but I think it really needs to start at the bottom instead.

If you try to start at the top, let's just say you magically have the money to set up and promote this, maybe not in nxl/psp levels but considerably. What manufacturer wants to sponsor teams? They can't fully equip the players. PE could give them electros and mechs but then they have to use a different companies pump, I'm sure there might be a few, empire comes to mind that could fully equip a team but not many

If you start at the bottom and let it grow it gives the manufacturers time to catch up and develop something if they want to sponsor a team by the time the league gets traction

So if I'm reading this right, and I'm just going to assume you are not like diehard psp fanboy since you are on mcb, but you don't want to change any rules, don't want to change any gear but somehow like the idea of something new....?

Why is everyone worried about the refs? They should be chronoing everyone before the match anyway so the gear will be in their face. It's not hard to go, yup, 1 electro, 2 mech, 2 pumps.

It's not like refs for any league will be perfect, that's a fantasy but I certainly don't see how its going to be some obstacle that somehow will ruin a whole league.

But yeah, I see what you are thinking now, it's not leaderboards to compare team x on the West Coast to team z on the east. More comparing how each tournament went

YES! This is what I meant by leaderboards.

                      #30
when setting up something like this, perfect is the enemy of good enough. ie, the less complicated, the better. keep it simple. as simple as possible.

1 pump (dont care what kind, just no SHOs)
2 mech (dont care what kind or why)
2 electro (no caps on anything)

everyone wants to make like a million more complicated rules, and maybe those are necessary fun down the line ... but to start, you keep it as simple as possible. as basic as possible. your "perfect" ruleset is the reason its not going to happen. good enough is all you need.
