Pet Peeves - Craigslist , Kijiji, Classifieds Sellers

Over past few years i've done quite a bit of collecting, first video games, then onto paintball markers and gear , since coming back to the game 2017

i've bought more stuff than i've sold, and have developed a real appreciation for the way things are done here on MCB.

On platforms like Craigslist and Kijiji in Canada , they're another story! And they are rife with annoying Sellers and their tendencies , so I thought it would be fun to hash them out here!

Here is an extra annoying one for me that comes up so often:

The Seller that has a huge lot of various stuff, like multiple guns, masks, tanks , gear , etc, etc and they insist to sell it as a Lot and will not part out or separate items. That is annoying in itself, but this practice i understand, they don't want the hassle of multiple buyers, or only want to make one trip to the post office, etc. I get it!

BUT the thing that drives me nuts though, are the Sellers that do this do not lower their total price , they add up the value of each item, priced as if they're were going to separate it out, and call that the total!

They don't offer a deep volume discount like they should, to account for the fact the buyer is doing them a favor to make one easy sale, and they're dumping the pain in the ass task of selling all extra equipment onto the buyer!

drives me crazy! I don't even interact with those ads, I just hope the Crickets they hear from myself and others send the message!

For Craigslist, I really hate when people lowball you after showing up and inspecting item/s. Like literally price has been agreed to via email/texts and then after wasting 20 minutes of your time they try for half off. For the most part I hate doing deals in person but that just makes it worse.

On the forums and this may just be a PBN thing because everyone is 14 there - no pics but a notice to "text me for pics". It's not that hard to post pics so in my mind if someone is too lazy to post decent photos, they're not a good seller and I'd rather not buy from them. Here and just about every other forum I frequent (triathlon, mountain biking, cars) pictures are pretty standard and required for sale. Usually it's the same people who post a 3 word description as well.

On Facebook within paintball or magfed related pages and groups.... There is an incredibly common question that just gets posted and posted and posted:

How many mags (or shots) are you getting our of your 13ci?

Stop asking. Stop talking. *duct tape sounds* Get a remote!

I absolutely loathe when people just type in a bunch of brand names after the title to trigger keyword searches.

Those people are THE WORST, and I hope everyone who does that stubs their toe every day for the rest of their natural lives.
If you need to talk, I will listen. Leave a message and I will call you back as soon as I get it.

Potential buyers messaging you with a question once and then disappearing.
Potential buyers agreeing to a price and then disappearing when asked about when to meet.
Potential buyers Saying $XXX ready to pick up today and then disappearing when you agree to the price (I've had 2 people do this on my last set of wheels for the BMW)
People who want me to negotiate against myself; or the lowest of beings, the guy who emailed me "lowest". One word, no punctuation. To call him a snake or lizard would be an insult to the reptiles.

          Sellers who never respond
Sellers who try to increase their own price after the fact

I don't bother with anyone who seems too lazy. I figure they're too likely to flake on me and in particular if I need them to ship it then I'm not going to risk it.

For me it's been blatant liars selling cars. I live in Monterey and about an hour north is San Jose a more metropolitan area with a larger population. On multiple occasions I have talked to a guy about his 1 owner car and heard his story only to meet him and find that he would have been 5 when the car was new and the paint shows overspray from when damage was corrected for a car that just barely avoided having salvage title.

When I call them out on it they just shrug and act like it's part of the business. And it is part of the scum bag car dealer business but it's totally shameful.

They usually end up meeting at a place that isn't actually there house and you show up before them. Usually some photos taken on front of a townhouse style new home complex on telegraph Hill or something.

Pretty much unless it's something so rare I don't waste my time if I can't tell for sure I trust the seller on a car anymore.

The other day I got a reply that said “Whats ur lowest, bro.” No surprise he didn’t buy anything.

I’ve made some good money off buying a package the person wouldn’t split, keeping what I wanted and selling the rest individually for a profit.

I hate when you negotiate a deal and arrange a meeting time and they sell it to someone else. Very lame... lost an Emek like this.

And ghosting sucks as well. Spent a good amount of time bargaining back and forth and then poof, the person disappears.

Here is another that drives me bonkers! First off, yes, I have a problem. I check my local Kijiji listings daily for deals. Often multiple times per day. Ok, like every couple hours.....

Having said problem allows me to notice an annoying trend, which is this!

The Seller who lists something interesting, but for an unrealistic price. So I don't even bother responding, my realistic price in my mind is probably a lowball to him, so I don't waste his or my time. And clearly no other buyers are contacting him either, because......

A few days or week later, he re-posts the same ad, but does not adjust his price!

This action repeats, and repeats, the same ad, same price seemingly forever!

I'm always curious when a seller like this is going to clue in: That if you set a price on something, and it doesn't sell no matter what you do, it's the wrong price!!!

Some Sellers like this often will add a blurb like , "well , i don't need to sell, and if I can't get this price, i'll just keep it "

Well, keep it then, put it back on the wall, and stop posting your pointless ads !!!

In that case, the price just went up $10 for you, buck-o.

Depends how spiteful and vindictive I feel at that particular moment, but the amount of either is usually "considerable". I'd probably pepper any further communications with insults directed at their lower-class parentage and basement-dwelling status, just for kicks.
