So I've noticed that the large 6v batteries are becoming harder to find, and more expensive when you do find them. I had one of these 4 AA battery boxes from a previous project, and hooked it up. It definitely works. They last for a few months at least with mild usage. It got me thinking, rechargeable AA batteries could be used, OR even a 6v rechargeable battery for an RC car could be obtained for very little money on the jungle site. Either way, just passing this info along, hope it helps someone.

I kind of wonder if a LiFePo4 battery would work for that, they have them in 6v with 6aH and a charger for cheap. It is almost the same size, lower weight and are relatively cheap sub 40 dollars. The main concern I would have is the output amps, the one that I saw had a max of 10A and if the input circuits are not designed for that input it could fry them. -
In a pinch you can run them on a 9volt battery. They dont last as long as the 6volt. One of my 6volts fell out and broke on the floor and when i ripped it apart it was just 4 D-cell duracells. lolComment

I haven't used my big red in over 3 years, so this got me thinking that I have only replaced 2 6vt battery's in the 10 years Ive had it ... And yep, 3 year old battery and it still works...Comment

Since I use mine basically exclusively for shop testing these days, I converted mine to take a 6V "wall wart"- typical barrel type power cord plug, etc. I have a "dutch" door out the back of the shop, and a nearby outlet at about collarbone level, so I just open the top half of the door, pull the chrono off the storage hooks, plug in the wart, set it on the shelf on top of the lower half of the door, fire my test shots into the woods, adjust as necessary, close it all up again.
