I just got a Gtek and I was thinking. If I were to freak bore the stock barrel, would that hurt, help, or be irrelevant from a resell standpoint?

Freak bore or not?

Stock barrel as in the Shaft that came with it, or the Lucky15 pictured?
Either way, I wouldn't spend the money + wait time getting either bored for inserts if used with a open bolt spool valve. No matter the paint, I use a 689 nearly always (also have a 693) and does just fine, messing with inserts etc wouldn't do much

Use the large, smooth tits (tube is tube) philosophy. Large bore and smooth hone is what matters. I also like one piece to avoid steps in the bore.
Open bolt: .693 or as big as you have. Large, smooth tit.
Closed bolt: .693 or as big as you have with RedLeaderSB barrel detent. If still getting rollouts, use two RedLeaderSB detents staggered for six fingers instead of three. I superglue them together to keep them properly oriented. Remove barrel o-ring, if present. Detents need to be firmly held in place between barrel and body, and function as the o-ring. Once the detents are used, bending the fingers down the barrel, always use them in that orientation. Flipping them (fingers pointed towards bolt) makes them wear out faster. Large, smooth tit with ring(s).
It’s a little less efficient and a bit louder but is best for eliminating breaks and rollouts.
So given the large, smooth tits philosophy, and to answer your question, it hurts resale if I were the buyer.

…resale value?
I’m sure it’s a very nice performing gun of very good quality…but it’s not Palmer, CCM, Carter, 1 of 1 splash anno Smart Parts Mag with Z grip territory. It’s a totally soulless made in China commodity item that will slowly depreciate until it’s worth the same as a Walmart Spyder clone.
While unnecessary, go ahead, freak with confidence. It won’t have any effect on your net worth in five years.

Just run that lucky barrel that’s a good barrel. One piece shoot the best IMO. It doesn’t matter what size bore it is because you have functional detents on the Gmek.
Freak are good for older markers that may not have functional detents. (Snipers Cockers, phantoms ect) issue with freak inserts are if you break paint they can’t just be swabbed out. The paint gets behind the inserts and weep paint down your barrel after each shot effecting accuracy. The insert body insert inside and outside needs to be cleaned if that happens.
With a fixed bore one piece you can swab and go /shoot them clean most of the time. Definitely a benefit For a tournament style Mechanical marker. All my Electro and Modern Mech markers get a slight overbore for this reason.

0.687 and smaller ID I personally would not freak bore but if you get bigger then that I do feel freak boring can take a barrel of limited value playing and make it usable again with existing paint. Even with freak inserts I overbore, I prefer overbore with Wedgits for our crappy paint but if the overbore is too large getting and keeping reasonable velocity is problematic. I am so confident in this "slight overbore with wedgits" that I am making a jig to Wedgit the ends of freak inserts so I can use Wedgits on my closed bolt markers.
For you EMEK I would not worry about freak inserts, it is open bolt with good detents so should not be an issue.

I wanted to chime in with my totally non scientific anecdotal testing from this weekend.
I wouldn't bother trying to freak a stock emek barrel, but if you have any OG barrels laying around they are worth freaking. Dig out that old pro series for sure.
Older larger bore barrels benefit greatly from freak boring. I was gifted the terminator barrel from Santa. I after had the Armson, and APP hitman barrels bored. All three of these are .690 or larger bore stock. The arnson is obviously rifled, and the app is straight rifled. I was hoping to have 3 sleeper barrels with different results in shot profile. I think these will foot the bill.
Last weekend. I let my buddy shooting a sniper with an OG freak test the APP. He claims it's way quieter than the freak, and very accurate. He credited many good shots where his victim didn't even know whom shot them. He essentially asked. " how much??" After the day of play. I'm still not sure I want to sell it yet.
The terminator barrel shot well on my laz valved trilogy. No breaks at 300 fps for the few rounds I used it.
The armson I ran on a ccm t2. It was deadly accurate. I got many one ball shots that even had me surprised. Not sure if I can credit the barrel, or the shooter here, but man I'll need to yest both next weekend further.4 Photos
