I'm truly not one to brag or promote myself. But I realize that doing good and not talking about it or sharing means others might not be motivated to do the same. I really love paintball! I want to help grow the sport and encourage you all to do some good. I thought I would start this thread to share stories of doing good to encourage others to do the same. If we can all do something to encourage a young player or someone doing great things for the sport, maybe it will continue to help us grow.
In the last few years I have done a few things. I did help build a field and got donated and bought equipment to let a few groups of foster kids to play paintball for the first time. The field still stands and the equipment was left with the organization to continue to use. (Sorry for the long rambling but it explains the history and vision) https://youtu.be/7p2wwl8JULg?si=g1dcqjOKoWyBR0Ac
Last year I had a Tippmann Cronus sitting in my shed and there was a kid at my field that rented every week. I gave him the Tippmann and a hopper. I told him that it was his to do whatever he wanted with it. He continued to play for a while with it and eventually traded up to get a mini. He still plays and loves paintball.
This week I played a game with a kid who I have seen at the field a few times. He has a HK Sabre. He is the only one I have ever seen come back repeatedly with a sabre. Those things suck. They are loud and it's not a great gun. Most people have one one week and the next time I see them, they have bought a mini. This poor kid keeps getting lumped with the speedball players because he has his own equipment. He never complains and plays hard with that thing. Yesterday I bought a Mini that I'm going to gift him. I started out looking for a cheap Emek but someone reached out to me and sold me a mini for what I would have paid for an Emek. So once this comes in I will find this kid (I don't know his name or really anything about him except that he plays pretty consistently) and give him the mini. I don't know what else he needs but I will probably get him a hopper too if he needs one. Why am I doing this? Because I want him to be encouraged to keep playing.
The last thing I did a few weeks ago was bid on 2 EV masks that our field was auctioning off to raise money to help fund kids for paintball camp ($230 for each kid for a week including food). I bid on the first mask and paid $130. I told the owner to keep the mask and donate it to one of the kids that will be attending. I did the same thing for the second mask that I paid $110. So I paid for a kid to go to the camp for the week and 2 kids will get brand new masks. The camp teaches kids how to play the game, tech guns and understand the game. Many of the kids that have attended previous camps have continued to play many years later.
That's what I have for now. Please feel free to join in and encourage others by telling us what you did.
