Availability makes a big difference. Over the last year, HK Army for whatever reason has been the only company in paintball to consistently have product. It doesn't matter if a gun is cheaper if you can't get it anywhere.

Honestly, the biggest 'feature' of this thing is really a non feature to me. I've never had an issue with having external hoses (especially steel braided which is typical for lower end guns). Unless the newbs are taking some hardcore dives in a rec game then I can't see this actually being a big feature for them either. That's the point of marketing hype: to make pointless things seem like a big deal. They probably haven't played paintball too much (if at all) and don't know what features will have value to them; they're just looking for features for features sake.
I do agree that this is more a contemporary (in terms of features) to a Spyder Victor than a reg'd Azodin, Tippmann or GOG enmey. However, I do think this has the edge over the Victor in that it actually has a foregrip (more or less). Again, the value these features hold will be decided by the consumer. I don't think the SABR is worth the additional cost but it might be to others (or so they think). The current MSRP is a gamble IMO.
On a related note, I think inflation is killing paintball for a younger crowd (view that as you will). The Spyder Victor is the cheapest 'decent' offering that I would seriously consider playing a public rec game with. It currently retails for $96.99 CAD on Badlands (Canadian ANS Gear). When I first started playing it was retailing for $69 CAD (nice). It's a big hit for people on a fixed/sporadic income.

Personally I would go so far as to say not only is hose-less not a feature but actively a negative since you can at least change out expansion chambers, regulators, or gas through grips on a normal gun and also put a rail or a drop on a normal gun so that you can really dial in your ergonomics. Without hoses it just is the way it is and you better hope if fits you right.
I have a tippmann pro-lite and I am glad they dropped the hose as a trigger guard idea, but all old ideas are new again I guess.

Agreed. To be fair they were running Mokal Fokuses that basically had no sear left and would sputter and decock after every few shots. It would help if they actually maintained them instead of just spraying wd40 into the breach though.Originally posted by The Inflicted View Post

I like the current generation of Spyder, with a TechT hush bolt and a nice barrel, they really come alive. But yeah the Victor is problematic for 2 reasons. The stock plastic clamping feedneck has a collar you can't rotate, and the screw that bolts it to the body can be tough to tighten down. I foresee a lot of lost feednecks... and broken frames after someone stabs too many bunkers with the thing.Comment
