Played in the annual charity event yesterday.

    Pics are in post #6.

Yesterday was the local field's annual charity event. This is something that I always attend. I bring along vintage gear each time I go. This year I brought a PVI Shocker, Angel LED, the wife's Dark Angel LED, a Sonic Bushmaster, and a modified Spyder AMG.

It was a fun day of play with about 40 - 50 people at the event.

I began the day with the Sonic Bushmaster. That thing turned a lot of heads! Most people thought it was an Impulse. It was great to "show and tell" and offer the history of it and to let people shoot it. Everyone was very impressed with it, commenting that it was "butter". It's larger than modern electros, and a little louder, but it keeps up with them just fine.

Next, I switched to the PVI Shocker. There was only one person that knew what it was. Again, it was great to show and tell it. I had LOADS of fun with it. These old Shockers are not fast shooters so I played long ball. It's a better distance shooter than the Bushmaster. I did have to try a couple of different inserts until I squelched the roll outs. It began acting funny after a ball chopped and jammed the bolt, so it was sidelined.

I picked up my Angel LED for the next batch of play. I intended to use a Freak barrel for the field paint (Valken this year) but the paint had swelled with the day's heat and fit the OTP G-1 barrel perfectly. I was excited for this because the OTP barrel recently came back from BMC being unable to bore. The Angel shot wonderfully. It's set up with a drop and is a front player's marker. I didn't do much of that. The past two weeks of work have been long and very physical so I had to take it easy.

Then on to the Dark Angel LED. This being the wife's marker, it sees little use. At the chrono station I couldn't get velocity above 210-ish and it was very inconsistent. Then the reg started to leak. It was time ti rebuild the reg. I didn't have the parts for that so the Dar Angel went back in the bag. Everyone said it was pretty.

I aired up the AMG I brought along after that. I has a custom VA made for this one. The marker is fitted with it, an AKA Sidewinder set to just under 400psi, a Trinity valve, Maddman valve spring and lighter main spring, titanium striker with cupped face, stock Kingman 3 oring bolt, a Virtue board, and Freak barrel. No one knew what it was. I played woodsball with this one. It worked great with absolutely no issues whatsoever, very nice shot and no chops/breaks.

I was very tired and sore so I picked up the Bushmaster for the last set of play. I strapped my old school Redz pack on with the pods to the front, on my belly. There were a lot of young new players on my team this go round and I wanted to hang back with them and do some coaching and encouraging. With my machine gun setup all ready, we started. It was great to move more slowly (which still took a lot of effort!) and lay down lots of paint. I helped the newbies move up and make some battle plans.

There is a tower in the middle of the field and once captured it is massively advantageous. I kept pelting two players that were in that tower for quite awhile. They were unable to be effective and this allowed the new players to move up and experience some real offensive play. I then broke away and began moving down the right of the field in order to get a line of sight up the tower ramp and get two eliminations. I thought it would be great for the new players to get in that tower and be up there blasting away. Out of nowhere, and I still don't know where, I get hit at the very top of my mask. I call for a paintcheck because I can't find any paint when feeling the area with my hand. The ref calls me out. When I am back at the staging area, I remove my mask and see the tiniest amount of pink paint at the top of my mask frame. It's tiny. Think smaller than a pea tiny. Oh well. The day was done.

Great time and fun playing. There was such a neat interest in the old gear. It makes me want to start bringing a traveling exhibit each time I come to the field and just spend half the day educating people and showing off the old stuff.

I did not take pics while at the event, but the field will probably have some pics they upload to their FB page. I'll try and get some of those uploaded if they do.

In the meantime I will be cleaning all the gear today and can get pictures of it as I do that.

You know. It's only 6 hours to lincon NE from where I currently sit. With enough notice. I would totally make a weekend out of attending a charity game in that area.

What's the field? What's the charity? Maybe we can make a mcb meet and greet game?

      LET'S DO IT!

The field is Mad Cow Paintball. Each year they do a charity event for Toys for Tots. If you bring a new toy priced at $20 or above then the entry fee is waived. You can also pay the entry fee and 100% of it goes to Toys for Tots. This year they got $2200 for the cause.

That Sonic really is something to behold. I am glad it's found a good home with you and is actually getting to see the field again!
