MCB is definitely my home, much more than other platforms, but sometimes some want to engage differently. I rarely post videos on MCB and instead do long posts using pictures. Reddit make posting videos very easy,
    so a convenient platform.

I don’t find much if any community in Reddit. It’s simply not comparable to MCB and nor do I want it to be. I have limited interests on it and stay rather tightly to those interest and try not to stray too far. Promotional though, it reaches a lot of people.

What Reddit provides is a large pool of paintball players. These means more good, more bad and more everything in between. It also is a lot easier entry point for new players to ask questions and sometimes even get good advice. It also a a platform on which MCB can be and often is showcased. Many people will refer posters to MCB for advice or appraisals. In that way it is complementary to MCB. There are several MCB members on Reddit.

If we want our sport to grow, and grow in the right way, we need to make sure we’re promoting it properly. Someone post a few questions, gets referred to MCB a few times, maybe they join up and add to our community. That means more crazy projects, more people participating in build offs, more people selling and buying markers.

For me, I’m not big into any social media. Facebook is a necessary evil which I used to sell JT parts and keep I touch with older family members. That had been my only social media until I started looking at Reddit for some reason. I started just scrolling, but then decided to post a marker of a week posting. So I’d post a photo and some background on a specific marker once per week. I’ve got a ton of markers, so seemed like a natural fit. Did that for 30+ weeks, and was fun seeing people’s reactions and comments. I actually handed it over to Peculiar Paintball to share some of his crazy awesome markers. So he had been continuing the posts. Someone then asked for more shooting videos, and since I had a bunch I sent to buddy, it was easy and low effort to post up.

So being that is all just for fun, I was blown away by the viewing numbers. I’m not looking to make this a job, or make money off it and am well aware in internet terms these numbers aren’t even great. But for a middle aged guy sharing his hobby it’s pretty neat.

I'm glad you have the patience for it, and don't want to immediately zero in on the negatives, but after the HK army fiasco recently, I can't bring myself to even look at it anymore.

RAZRBAKK Not to hijack anything, but I'm curious- what's this HK Army fiasco?

I'm not. It's a niche within a niche sport. MCB & long term regulars need to realize that we are maaaaaaybe 15% of the market. Also, if it were 2009 when pump became popular again after the economy bottomed out I'd bet you'd see different numbers.

On a presonal note: I don't have a Reddit account, but I look at a few subs just for general info & entertainment. (Elden Ring, Squaredcircle, Metroid being my main ones) I thought about making a Reddit account but there are way too many people on there that make my brain hurt. And it's been made arguably worse with all the people moving from Twitter to Reddit post-US election. As far as paintball goes, I don't even look at r/Paintball because of all the stupid people on there yapping about stuff they have no business talking about or just making assumptions. And I've spent way too much time in the newbie forum on PbN over the years to realize that what I say amongst the masses truly doesn't matter in the grand scheme of this game. I just accept that I'm in a niche spot in an already niche game.

Reddit is very much a love/hate place. I'd argue that it's not a constructive enough of a community for paintball (and pretty much everything else). It's more for commentary.

Definitely agree it is a place for commentary over substance.

I for one like your picture posts. It's easier to reference one specific thing in a photo. A video its there and then moves on so let's say I'm trying to take one apart at home, I have to try and pause the video on one specific spot and then hope the resolution is good enough to see what I need.

I don't understand how people try to cook a new recipe using a video. Seems like an absolute nightmare.
    Go cut the chicken
Now wash and dry your hands before playing your video for a half second to see that the next step wants you to handle the chicken again and put it over here.

Wash and dry again, play video, repeat *trbo cringes*

Definitely agree, which is why I do pictures over video. I don't like videos although sometimes have to reference them when I get stuck on something. I also usually don't like listening to all the rambling and unnecessary stuff a lot of videos have.

I can say that Reddit (specifically r/paintball) is how I found this community, and I remain very, very glad that I did. I was asking questions about resurrecting my old PGP and several people directed me here, with one telling me "dude, those guys have forgotten more about Sheridans than anyone else has ever known". So yeah, posting on Reddit has its advantages.

I do prefer discussing paintball here rather than on Reddit though, because A: people here are far more civilized and B: y'all recognize forms of play other than speedball exist.

reddit has its place for sure.
i grew up on forums from early on. i remember motor swapping my Saturn using the old Chilton/Haynes manuals complete with the grease stained pages... lol
this was long before youtube made everyone into a mechanic. With that being said, everyone was HOUNDED to "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON"!
that has always stuck with me but, Reddit as a whole seem to be ok without that. No one complains when theres post after post of "what is this TPMS light on my dashboard?" (or similar, easily searchable question)
People use Reddit as a google search rather than just googl'ing it or searching for it and that kills.

the other thing i cant stand is that Reddit is SO broad that no matter what you say, there will be someone who says, "well actually..."

still im a sucker for Reddit. i joined a couple subs that appeal to me and its been pretty fun. i also find it neat when i see cross-posts between MCB and Reddit.

I finally joined up here after lurking for years because I was/am getting burned out on reddit. It's more or less the same handfull of questions repeated on a weekly basis in all of the subs I'm subscribed to. It's starting to feel like crowd-sourced research instead of enthusiast communities. Which is a shame because that's not how it used to be.

Personally, I look forward to yours and peculiar's posts over there if for nothing else to break up the monotony of the daily "should I get a used 170R or a DSR+?" or "how much is this spyder worth?" questions. But also y'all have some sweet toys haha.

I do agree it's pretty repetitive. Someone had started cutting and pasting posts explaining what entry level marker to buy as it's asked all the time. I suppose that helps my posts, as people are relatively starved for something more interesting.
