SP freak back with AA tip.

. I've used the same freak with Blue AA tip for probably 10 years. It isn't as minty as it was when I bought it used years ago, but it still sends paint down the field like a champ.

Beyond aesthetic preference my favorite barrel is my 12" dual vented PPS 0.0685" Wedgited barrel I use with my Pyre and Blazer and here are my reasons:

• It works; guides paint in the general direction I am aiming to the point it is in free air
• The Wedgits make the worry of paint size and shape a relative moot point
• Small enough efficiency is not hurt too bad on small paint (not a big worry to me) and I have plenty of velocity adjusting capability
• Relatively Quiet with the dual vents
• Cleans easy
• natural patina of the brass is aesthetically pleasing to me
• I really only need the one barrel to play.
• Heavy but not too heavy ( I like some heft to my marker)

Cons -

• I'd prefer 14-16" for pushing through brush or against bunker but added weight not worth it
• I can get roll outs on super small paint
• It's brass and can be dented (though I really do not worry about that too much)
• Vents hold broken paint well even after running a squeegee through it.

But seriously, twist lock Boomsticks are still my favorite barrel for classic Automags. They're not the easiest to clean, but I feel like the weight balances the marker and makes it easier to point.

I've got Dye ultralites on everything else.

But I'm firmly believe that a barrel is a barrel, for the most part. Some are definitely bad, but most of the better ones are so similar that I can't tell the difference. Good paint is so much more important. I've never lost a game and thought, "Damn. Totally would have won that if I had a better barrel."

I have been using my Sly carbon fiber 16" barrel with AC and Ion backs for years. I just bought a Freak XL 16" Carbon Fiber barrel and I like it a lot too. I switched to the Freak XL so I have the longer control bore compared to the 3" control bore on the Sly. I prefer 16" barrels because I find I actually aim with them versus anything shorter. I really love the lightweight carbon fiber barrels because it makes any gun noticeably lighter.

I had a J&J barrel and Dye barrel for my Rize a few years ago but I still prefer these two to anything else I have used.

Thanks for setting me straight on the Jacko Infinity barrel being the original Whisper. Knowing things is neat.

I also know that barrels are largely irrelevant... that's why this is a discussion of favorite and not best. Lol.

Must say, though, I am SUPER disappointed that the Ramrod isn't everyone's favorite... or the PMI clear plastic barrels, come on, guys!

My fave is based entirely on the aesthetics of the marker it is going on. I don't really pick it based on any other criteria.

Another Stella fan here. I run them on any gun I have with a removable barrel aside from the Vectors and Phantoms.

Great thread! I keep coming back to the 10” CP. it’s a little louder, little less efficient, and doesn’t point as naturally as all the current 14” plus barrels. But man does it just handle well, especially on a modern, lightweight spool gun.

A barrel is a barrel for me, but I am partial to a Freak back with a Teardrop front for the sleeves (preventing rollouts, mainly) and the aesthetics.

I'm of the opinion that barrels don't really matter a whole lot, so it ends up coming down to dumb features and aesthetics. I currently run a freak kit, specially built with a freak jr back and a deadlywind whip tip. Great features, not the best looking. I'm considering swapping to an Inception Stella freak kit just for kicks. My CS1 has a matching Shaft FR that I love, but the ano makes it really hard to use on other guns (splash ice)

Yeah, I pretty much echo that sentiment. The barrel doesn't matter a whole lot although some have a certain magic.

I really like the styling of the teardrop SP barrels and I have a really clean original gloss black freak with teardrop tip that shoots great on some older guns. The flared tip of Dye barrels I feel like I can point shoot better just because of the tip being a good reference. In terms of barrels that just shoot exceptionally well I really like my .685 back Stella but the Shaft 4 on my LV1 shoots ace as well so they're both great. Lots of friends have Freak XL's and those are amazingly good shooting barrels and I think there may be something to that fluted tip and shooting better through a ball break.

As far as a barrel that has been a surprise...I got a Lucky 15 in 689 in a gearbag buy off of craigslist. That barrel shoots absolutely mint and I don't hear them talked about much.

Old school Custom Products if for nothing other than looks. Those were some classy barrels that looked good on pretty much any marker. I can’t say the performance was better or worse than any other aftermarket barrel that i used back then but they were usually a huge step up from stock.
