DLS Report:
First time playing/shooting paint with it last night. Let's get the facts out of the way.
Starting shot count: 301
Ending shot count: 1,418
Starting tank pressure: 4k (cold), 80ci tank
Ending tank pressure: 1.8k (cold)
Back bore: .688
So just over 1,100 shots on the night. I know this is not an official, calibrated, or even controlled efficiency test, but the same tank will be used after I put 20k shots on it to compare how my marker is breaking in. I had probably 2-3 breaks, which isn't abnormal for our winter blend. Most of the guys that shoot Dye usually use the .684 back, but I wanted to go big for the hell of it. What was interesting was that there appeared to be a break in the breech when I tore things down for the night. There was even still shell in the eye pipe, so either the bolt does not quite clean the eye pipe like previous systems, or this shell was getting stuck on the detent. Either way, it didn't affect my shot quality at all, I had no indication there was debris in there.
On to first impressions of the marker. The trigger is weird. This is my first time shooting a marker with the Edge2/Reach trigger, and I can only describe it as weird in semi. My typical preference is a scythe shape, so this is a complete 180. However, in ramp it's actually pretty fantastic for one-finger shooting. Walk-on is capped semi, so for most of the night I just one-fingered it until I get a chance to really make adjustments to the trigger (or find a new face).
The shot is also weird, and everyone I let shoot it agreed. It's just different. The sound signature is like a "bark", but much quieter than my MacDev Drone 2S (which is actually loud), and very different from the GT2 and other spoolies. The marker vibrates in hand, but doesn't really kick in any one direction. Apparently one of the regulars brought theirs out last weekend and had issues with the back-cap blowing back and leaking. I did not experience that at all, though I did feel a bit of a "push" on the back cap if I placed my thumb on it while shooting (think making a thumbs up shape on the trigger hand). The battery seemed to drain a bit faster than my GT2, which is something I'll have to keep an eye on.
Overall, I like it. I can definitely see how it's divisive and some people will just outright not vibe with it. It's very different, but once game time is on, it feels good. The balance feels great, and I feel like I switched hands a bit faster than other marker, but that could just be first-date placebo. I'm curious to see if I can get the trigger set to my liking, or if I'll have to give up and buy/make something for it. Still gotta a lot of playtime with it to really get comfy though, first shots/snap shots were not great in general.
