It’s that fomo drop culture that is utterly pervasive in the sport right now. They will hopefully make more runs because of how fast the first one sold out but it really does annoy the hell out of me.

Well... yes and no. Sometimes it's a capital question, and not wanting stranded inventory. Even for consistent production, small batches are often more cost effective when carrying costs, cost of capital, shop space, etc. are considered. Especially if changes may occur - obsolescence gets expensive.

But sometimes it's just driving attention through a limited release flavor, like it's a chocolate bar that only comes out for Christmas.

I'll bet it's typically risk management for small shops, and a marketing strategy for big.
