Hi all,
Almost two years ago, as most of us recall, mcarterbrown.com suffered a disastrous ransomware attack. We lost years of valuable "hive-mind" knowledge as well as photos, and stories, etc. It was awful. In haste to get the forum back up and running Carter and I scrambled to get MCB running quickly. We rushed through some back-end decisions and said "Let's deal with that later." Well, nearly two years has gone by and we haven't tackled those things. Therefore, the time is now to do it. The forum has to come down for a few hours for maintenance. Some of it is database maintenance and some of it is Linux operating system maintenance. The question is when to do it. I'm not keen on middle of the night ops (US Eastern) as, frankly, I'm apt to fall asleep at the keyboard or more likely to make mistakes from being groggy. I'd like to perform the upgrades this coming Saturday morning. I get that for some people that's a preferred login time but it works best for me.
The good news is that, although we lament all the lost memories and information, the new MCB forum is much, much less likely to ever suffer that fate (never say never) due to the backup and recovery system in place. Yes, in the past few months we had power grid outages which was a headache but the server and data is very secure.
So, unless there's some incredibly important reason why Saturday 4/30 around 8 AM EDT is a bad time to kick off the upgrade and maintenance, call it a date! I'll cross post this on the Facebook MCB page.
