    Dummy detents

    Greetings,

I will be making several batches of Dummy Detents as requested by members on here. These will go between the barrel and body of your closed bolt (Pump, cocker, omen, etc.) marker. These rings will prevent double feeding and the pumpers nightmare, Roll Outs!

I have never seen the Detents that were requested, so I designed some using the description provided. These are PETG backed rings with TPU (flexible material) fingers. Also, looking for someone to test these before I make a ton and ship them out, so it may take some time before you get them in hand!

Payment! I would like to do something different here for payment. An absolute wonderful man passed away recently. He was a Retired Marine and a Vietnam Vet. Instead of sending payment to me, I ask that you provide a donation to a charity that provides services to Veterans. The donation can be anything you want $1-$1,000. I don't need proof or anything, just let me know you made a donation. Please make the donation in his name "Bob Derosby"

The charity I am donating to, and I encourage you all to donate to if you don't have a preferred charity is Maine Veteran's Project (MVP). They are a local to me charity, they strive to combat veteran suicides. I have Vet friends who have volunteered for them, and they said it was awesome and the person who runs it is great. The best part is, it is a PAINTBALL FRIENDLY CHARITY! That is right, they host paintball events once a month that are completely free to veterans, they cover everything rental gear, field fees, and even paint!

Before I mass produce these and ship them out, is there anyone who would be willing to test these out? I put 30 rounds through my sterling and it worked well, and had minimal wear. I was hoping a person who used the Dummy Detents in the past could give them a shot and let me know if I need to make changes.

    About the Man!

I worked with Bob Derosby for about 5 years, he was in his 70s but never stopped. He didn't work because he had to, he had to work because he couldn't sit around doing nothing. He was a retired marine, and tough as nails. However, as soon as someone with a kid walked into our business you would see Bob jump up and run out of the room. We all knew he was running to the vending machine. He would always come back in with a huge smile on his face and handfuls of candy bars to give to the kid. He did this several times when I was in with my kids. Each time I would say no, that is way too much candy for a 3 year old and he would look me dead in the eyes and say "Let the kid be a kid" push past me and put the candy in my son's hand and say "Don't let your Dad take these from you, if he does you come and tell me and I'll deal with him".

Since Bob was such a great worker and I assumed heavily underpaid he never had a single fuck to give. He always did his job and everyone loved him. I feel like there is no better picture to sum up Bob than the one below. When he passed many people asked if I had the picture and would share.

My favorite story of Bob was back when once a month our Janitor at my company would host a drawing for prizes. They were usually small simple things, he did it for morale. I won one and it was a cheap garden hose. Well, one day Bob won the prize (I can't remember what it was), but I was there for the drawing, Bob was not. After the announcement was made all the names were dumped in the trash. I look down and Bob's name was in the trash even though his name that was pulled out was set aside on the counter. I pulled it out of the trash laughing and announce that Bob cheated. Well a co-worker got all worked up and said "Bob would never cheat, he is the most honest man I have ever met, you did that, don't try to lie, I know". I got into an argument with a room of 5 people all of which were convinced I did it as a prank to make fun of Bob (we pranked a lot at the company). I swore. Not a single person there believed me.

Finally Bob walks in all smiles that he won. I hold up the second name, and say "Bob, did you cheat?" He then looks at me and in the gruff voice that only a Vietnam vet and retired Marine could have he says loudly for all to hear "You're fucking right I did". The whole room explodes in laughter. Then he turns sweet and puts on a confused look and says "I mean I don't know, I am old and forgot if I put my name in" we laughed so hard. Mary the one who defended him so fiercely says" Bob, how could you?" he said "I never won, I don't know how much longer I have". Not a single person cared that he cheated.

    R.I.P. Bob.

Count me in….I’m down to test and trouble shoot. I’ll put them through some trials in the back yard and then really hammer them at HOTH in a couple weeks.

Awesome, I'm sure I have your address in my PMs. I'll just send these out in an envelope with a stamp on it.

I will be sending a donation tonight when I get home as well. Love this idea BTW! Bob Derosby Sounds just like my Grandfather he was the same way tough as nails hard worker and a perfectionist. Like Bob he was Marine threw and threw.

If you need some more people to test these out I’m more then willing to give you my thoughts on them. BTW thank you for attempting to bring these back to production. Hopefully we can figure out how to make them durable with a little trial and error.

I happily donated to this cause. Bob sounds like old Mr Glen I use to work with in the shipyard. He was a salty 84 year old retired navy master chief who could still carry a tool bag up a dry dock ladderwell.

If you need more volunteers I have a couple Phantoms and Cockers I can test these out on. I didn’t have the original so I can’t really compare it to them, but I’ll definitely put them through their paces.

Thanks, but it looks like we are all set on testers!

UPDATE: I now have a decent amount of testers, and some people are sending me detents to get exact measurements. So We should be all set. Thank you to those who are helping and those who have volunteered. Also, Thank you to @Joker who also donated a book of stamps to help send theses out. Very cool, all of you!

I have a classic Trracer and have some of the original Dummy detects. LMK if you want any more testers or if you feel you have a good enough size crowd.

and good on ya for the way you’re honoring Bob through this!

Someone who knows him reached out to his personal Facebook account but as far as I know they have not heard back.

If you have any more for testing, I'd be willing to try one in my CCI Phantom. I've gotten mixed results with detent rings and questionable field paint.

Otherwise, let me know when they are available.

                      UPDATE::

So I was having some trouble duplicating FreeDummy's rings. They would work but would eventually shoot out the end of the barrel, so I scrapped the design and came up with a "Barrel Sleeve". It will do the same thing the rings do, but will be much less likely to shoot down the barrel, and also they will be way easier to install. Instead of dropping them into the breech and trying to get them flush, you just put it on the barrel and screw it in. I have done limited testing and shot about 200 rounds through one and it held up fine and I did not have a single roll out. I have sent out packets of the prototypes to three testers who have all agreed to shoot over 250,000 shots through them using 12 grams only and the highest quality paint available.

                      Wish them luck!

Jonnydread not for this design. At first it had "fingers" and that was causing issues. Mechstar suggested just creating little nubs and that corrected the issue.

Also these are more with tpu and very thin so it is very flexible, not hard or rigid at all.
