.45 black powder underhammer target pistol (brass + wood!)

I purchased this smokepole on GunBroker a few years ago. It was custom built by the seller, and was unfired when I purchased it. I have taken it out shooting around 5 times since, firing 10-20 rounds per outing. While it is certainly an interesting little piece of kit, I really need to consolidate my black powder stuff. Here’s what you’ll be getting:

With the hammer cocked, you can see the mainspring is also the trigger guard:

Custom built underhammer pistol in .45
    • Fully adjustable rear sight
    • Burl grips
    • Lee dual cavity .430 round ball mold
    • Original ram rod with ball puller
    • Track of the Wolf loading/cleaning rod with jag end and muzzle protector
    • Unopened 100 pack of .10 shooting patches
    • Open pack of approximately 30 .15 shooting patches
    • Open pack of approximately 80 .10 pre-lubed shooting patches
    • Brass flash hider thing for the nipple
The pistol is in very good shape. The bore is shiny, the wood is in great shape and is also pretty fancy looking (if a bit dirty from use). The Lee mold is used, but perfectly serviceable. I haven’t done any formal accuracy testing, so the elevation will need to be set for your preferred target distance and load. I used anywhere from 20-40 grains of 3f with good results on soda cans at ~20 feet.

I’m asking $299 via PayPal, shipped USPS.

It's been fun, I'm just limiting myself to a single caliber: .54

Pretty cool lookin'. I just picked up an H & A underhammer in .45...have yet to shoot it though. Might have to pick this up if its still up when my funds are available. I try to keep purchases in the same caliber as well.

I had every intent to get the exact rifle (unless you have the pistol lol) you're describing as a pair to this... until I found a sweet stainless .54 pistol.

A year has passed, and my desire to sell this remains! Let it be bumped from the literal bottom of the yard sale!

Another 11 months! It seems my hopes of selling this here were ill founded

I could be into it, but for like half you're asking price.

Any interest in partial or full trades of the pump kind?

Annual bump! I'd consider trades towards a newer fancy space gun (I can add of course).

I'm not a potential buyer by any means, but can I ask how this thing works? That upside down hammer combined with that funky bolt in the back is fascinating.

Nothing too fancy going on, it's pretty much a rifled cannon that ignites from the bottom. Check the first few pictures versus the last to see how the main spring is also the trigger guard. The hammer swings up to strike the percussion cap. I'm guessing you're looking at the rear sight when you say "funky bolt."

Here's a video of a rifle with the same design: https://youtu.be/nGWK15A0Xd0

Ahhh, I didn't realize it was muzzle loaded, that makes a hell of a lot more sense now.

This is so cool. Went to the target range with Fluff on the forums here and shot his black powder gun. We had more fun with that than the brass shelled ones.
