When you go to extract the honey you remove the bees from the boxes that have your honey. There are several different ways of doing this. I use a piece of equipment called an escape board. It is basically a board that the bees can only go one way through. So as they naturally cycle through the hive they leave the honey box and can’t get back in.
Then you take the boxes and remove the frames of honey. The honey is covered by a thin layer of wax while inside the hive.
You then cut off the thin layer of wax so that the honey can come out of the frame.
Then I put the frames into an extractor which spins the frames and throws the honey out of them. They come in different styles and sizes. I have a medium to large size extractor that will hold 20 frames at a time.
The honey is then stored or put in bottles. I put the honey in food grade 5 gallon buckets and store them until I’m ready to fill bottles.
The bottom right bucket above has a little filling gate on it that allows you to fill your honey bottles.

For stings in my clothes that didn’t actually get to me it a lot.
Each of those little white marks is the venom sack of a stinger. That was a few years ago when I decided to take honey from them on a day I knew I shouldn’t have.
