First post on MCB, looking to pick up my first pump marker! Preferably one that can be shipped quickly as there is a big stock class game on my birthday in 2.5 weeks.

(I'm assuming some variety of SC)
My personal favorite is VSC (Vertical Stock Class) however you can find Back Bottle with an M16 style grip a lot cheaper. So it really depends on your budget.
Check this thread out for ideas. Phantoms are always the sum of there parts. The more Options or Rare the parts the more pricy they get.

Up to you both works. I like the comment feature for short direct replays if they are a bit off topic. I generally use the regular post to respond directly to the OP vs another person’s response to the OP’s post. 300-350 budget should get you a decent VSC. Not likely any of the fancy Ano ones but for a first pump I suggest a gloss black one anyway this way you can change it around try different styles till you find what works for you. I tried them all and ended up right ware I started VSC. Look for fetures like (ASP detents) (freak bore barrels) they are not necessarily but make great lifestyles upgrades. They can always be added down the road and are inexpensive updates to add if you find a good deal. Also the Phantom stock barrels freak or fixed shoot amazing. -
Chuck E Ducky has it right, save your money and start out with a basic black marker if you can. Phantoms are the Lego of the pump paintball world and can be configured in a variety of ways, it all comes down to personal preference and what the pump culture is in the main area where you play. I have lived in New England where Stock Class/Modified Stock Class is big so in that area a configuration you are comfortable with that is stock capable is important. Where I am living now South Carolina, pump is pretty big in areas but it is more Open Class then Stock Class. So it makes more sense to have an Open Class compatible marker. It will take you a while to figure out what you like and how you want your setup so go with the cheaper "Lego" bricks first then when happy spend on the fancier bricks.

Both rear drop out phantom or VSC phantom posted by Grendel would be a good starting point.
You mentionned you are not a fan of the stock pump style. Under cocking kit is what you are looking for but they are harder to come by. They still do show up for sale once in a while. Even if its not perfect when you buy it you can always upgrade it later.
The stock pump arm can be improved by adding a brass shell (22lr casing) in the frame where the pump arm slide. It will reduce the play and feel smoother.

Alexndl thanks for the feedback. at this point im looking at going all basic and upgrading later, just building one in my favorite color for like $400 since it will be especially difficult to find used in green in the short term.
And yes! That would be the one. will be walking out for my 2nd game with a pump against a bunch of sweaty pump vets.Comment

You will be in good hands if your 2nd time will be at Slim's game. I enjoyed playing with the reprobates that show up there when I was still living in MA. Be patient there is a steep learning curve for pump in general in comparison to playing Semi and playing stock or modified stock class has an even higher learning curve. If you stick with it long enough you will get there. I normally recommend learning to play Open Class pump before going stock class but it is doable. Hell when I started playing it was essentially modified stock class was high tech and I am still playing.
Also while at Slim's get to know the other players and many will let you fondle/play with some alternative setups so you can see what seems to fit you the best. I know I would show up with at least 4 different pump setups and I have no idea how may different setups packersrule729 brings when he shows up (10?) Jonnydread is no slouch in that respect either.
