Tippmann 68 Special upgrades, mag feed breach? 12 gram, wood grips, dreamin blah blah

So it’s been a very long time since I’ve been in the paintball / MCB community.👋 I’ve often thought about buying a marker again, gettin an ol semi auto bushball mechanical would be nice. 🥺 Well! I found one! 🥹 As the stories seem to always go, it was found in an attic. 😹 Now it’s mine. 👹 It’s “like new”! (There is some tape residue on the Taso barrel which I will clean off)

I’m planning on playing limited ammo/air bushball🌲 & scenario urban assault.🥷 What I’m 😶‍🌫️ dreaming of now is:
    • J&J brass breach insert, stick feed with gate (that fits and looks cool), Myrkul BMC Tippmann slip fit Freak XL adapter (tell me more!) or if possible a custom AC threaded magfed breach that covers all of this?
    • KCCockerDoc Ramped bolt (what it do?)
    • 12 Gram drop out twist adapter 💨
    • Wood 🪵 grip & matching 45 degree foregrip with sling attachments
    • Trigger shoe
Any other suggestions for efficiency / performance upgrades & mods highly appreciated. I wanna MAX this Tippy out!

      • 12 Gram drop out twist adapter

Prepare for five shots per cartridge, haha.

Has anyone made mag fed adapters for these? I've been eyeing my 68s with that in mind.

        5? That’s pretty optimistic.

yep - thats a beaut, however I don't think its well suited to what you seem to want to do with it...
The 68 special came out in 1989 - parts are hard to come by, and its meant to run on liquid Co2
      • Running it effectively on 12 grams is essentially impossible
      • adapting a stick feed to the already wonky feedneck will also be a nightmare
      • I've never seen one of the J&J brass sleeves for sale - very rare
      • wood is heavy!
      • there is someone on here doing HPA mods for 68 specials - does not help with wanting to run on 12grams though
      • No ones freaked a barrel for the 68 special effectively except deadly wind and even that requires additional work to make it really sing.
If i were you I'd sell it off - or keep it for nostalgia and go find yourself something modern and reliable to play with on the regular

from the sounds of it your after stock class - find a phantom or get into a sniper - bombproof and deadly accurate

if magfed is really your jam may i suggest this insanely sexy beast:

Those J&J sleeves had tendency to break bolts, too... probably not a good thing since parts are getting harder to find for Specials.

Chappy Show him your Pro-Lite. I think Rookster would be much happier with something like that. .

Ok ok, so what I'm hearing is that it's an air hog... 90g CO2? What about hpa? I was hoping 12-16 shots.

I thought a stock class style tube feed sticking straight out of the feedneck would work... or cutting/grinding the feedtube off and putting a plate with a ball detent over it then removing the old ball detent and milling/drilling/tapping out the bottom to receive a mag adapter... (I'd get another breach for that)

I want a semi auto mechanical. Why is a Pro-Lite a better option?

If not wood then any other suggestions for a 45 angle forgrip that goes on barrel? 3D printers out there?

How much ya'll think this worth these days if I were to sell/trade for something better suited?

Not sure about value, but please don't grind on that 68 special...it's in incredible condition. There are many beaten up ones out there.

Hence why I said I'd get another breach to do that to in order to keep this one nice

Sadly, its not worth all that much - since it has the box, strap etc. maybe $180 -$200 tops... others can chime in. it will need a fair amount of work just to get it running as is.

IMO chopping up such a great old piece to try and hack on a mag etc, is really a disservice to an old marker and will likely result in something un-usable after allot of effort, that's then worth nothing
sell it here where it will be appreciated for what you can and find something modern that fits the bill...... sydarm maybe?

Then again it is against the MCB code to discourage such marker mangling .... maybe you've got a machine shop in the garage, mad dremel skills and a roll of duct tape. take lots of pics and lets see what you come up with!

While that thing is cool that is all custom work nothing was off the shelf for that.

You're going to end up spending more than it's worth to get something that performs worse than something off the shelf only a few years down the road. Every gun that tippmann produced themselves was essentially an improvement of the previous generation so if you want something slightly better more efficient better performance than this a Pro-Am would even offer that.
