I wonder where you would even find material round like that.
The top and bottom you can just cut something that’s existing. But where would you even find a base ball size ball of aluminum that’s walls are thick enough to take C02 pressure?
Automotive break industry maybe? They had to be using something easily available at that time.

So I think the way the one in the picture was made was buy cutting off the top of two old C02 tanks. That would allow them to have fittings attached and would ensure the ability to hold pressure. What are your thoughts?

Oh I see it now yeah that could work. Much cheaper option as well. What were they made out of I wonder and how well it would weld. Looks like they left the valve burst disk probably a good safety measure. But still a bit sketchy.Comment

It dose look dangerous not going to lie. But is it any more dangerous than the cheep China expansion chambers already in circulation. Assuming its welded correctly. Looks like it’s got a burst disk still in it.

A little digging seems to indicate that Pacific Scientific makes round ones like that. That explains the pressure containment for co2, but I don't know how well it would hold air. You'd have to find a pressure/temp conversion chart for that stuff. Good luck! -
I think that is much bigger than the one in the photo. It looks like two tank top half welded together. It even looks like they left the Co2 valve on the top half of you look close.
