    WTB surplus/ junk barrels

New lathe, looking to get a good feel for it.

I'd like to buy barrels that are taking up space, for a price that suggests as much. I prefer Spyder, Autococker, and Phantom barrels because they're sizes I deal with regularly, but sometimes tube is tube. Because of how I'm fixturing, I'll ask just for stuff with a nice cylindrical section near the threads so I can get a decent grip.

If you can do 5+ barrels in a box, worth shipping; if you want a few Freak bored or scrapped (we'll assume it's a coin flip at the moment) I'll give it a try for the cost of return shipping, or I'll pay shipping plus a few $$ per barrel if you never want to see them again. Call it $2 for stock Spyder or Ion or similar junk barrels, $5 for something that looks nicer and might be usable if bored, $10 for Phantom or Bushy (slip fit) barrels. My last lathe wasn't up to the task but was sneaky about it. This one wants to eat these tubes for breakfast but I want to make sure I get the workholding 100% right before I try anything of value.

If you were going to rethread, I'd say Twistlocks would be a great source of barrels to play with.

Not a bad idea! I didn't have any real plan past freak boring, but turning them into Phantom or Sterling barrels would be cool.

I had some unique twist locks modified into Dye tips that came out really good. You can even cut them for freak backs. They are often super cheap when you find them. If you are looking for project ideas.

I like this. Freak tips are just kinda annoying with the double lead thread. I was never a Dye guy but it wouldn't hurt to put in the repertoire.

I have a few spyder barrels I can send you. Would love to have some twist lock barrels freak bored, if possible. And yeah I have some barrels that I thought the tips would make great short tips on a freak back.

I take it, it would be aluminum not stainless?

Ok... seems MCB's generosity/ hoarding instinct will do quite well for what I need. I'll answer some PMs but may have plenty for a while.
