Group buy - Freak and ASA taps?

Confession, cutting internal threads on a manual lathe makes me frustrated. I think I'm there... and I'm not quite yet. More of an issue on Freaks, as my lathe can cut single or triple lead, not double, unless I kick my compound over and use it. Suboptimal.

So I got a quote on 7/8-32 DL (Freak fronts) and .830-14 NGO (ASA) taps. Pricey unless I'm doing 6; then they're under $150.

Do enough people do enough airsmithing to want to do a group buy? I got straight flute bottoming taps quoted.

Does the asa tap also cut the oring sealing surface?

No, that would probably be better done with a reamer. (I've thought of custom reamers to finish all my steps to size but one thing at a time.)

My workflow plan is to single point to undersized, then chase with taps. Can't really check over wires for ID.

Freak is $132 @ 6, ASA is $115 @ 6. Plus shipping. Add $47 each if we only get 3.

It's a weird paradox - it's fun to be capable, but not fun to be reduced to guess and check due to simple things like backlash on my cross feed.

I guess taps are still cheaper than a DRO.

I put an ELS on mine and made some program to cut threads and stop where I need ... I'd have a hard time running a lathe without it now
