De-burring after drilling?

I'm looking for suggestions/techniques on how to de-burr a barrel after porting.

I think I'm going to do something to my KP - it's a bit louder than I like.

You can just ream the inside of the barrel to remove the burrs or use a de-burring bit

I have filled a brass insert I made with steel shot and compound, then put it in the lathe at low speed for a while. Anything like a rock tumbler would also work. Just needs to let the shot tumble. You can partially stuff the barrel to isolate the section you want to deburr. It is slow.

Unfortunately I don't think any of these suggestions will work with my budget and equipment limitations. 🙂

They did spark a couple ideas, so I should be able to come up with a solution.

I've got a couple ideas, but I'm still working through all the details in my head.

Can't be any worse than stuff PPS has put out over the years, either way. 🙂

I have used a round rod with a slit cut into the end and a strip of sand paper to make a flapper wheel.

Old Reds swab with 1200 grit wet / dry sand paper wrapped around it... I
use the strait shot swab that doesn't fold and it fits inside a hand drill... I use the same without sandpaper and use polishing compound for brass barrels...

I've had luck with a flex hone. They're only around $20.

A stack of rubber washers with a long bolt and nut through them makes for a good expanding mandrel; you might be able to wrap this in sandpaper to get the size just right. Probably need a good fit on the washers to begin with, though. 5/8" might be close enough if you wrap it with enough paper.

For indexing the barrel, cut a block of wood into an octagon, then bore it, then slit it. Clamp it tightly on your barrel, and you'll always be able to index 45 degrees. Just don't unclamp it until you're done!
