Phantom feedblock for Ion?

My recent mech build involved a Phantom feedneck adapter that I sanded to fit, but I think it would be easier to get one printed that actually fit properly.

Is someone on here willing to "redesign" a Phantom feedblock to fit an Ion body? It's the body relief that needs tweaking, Phantom bodies are a smaller OD than an Ion.

I plan to build a SC pump Ion, in case anyone is wondering.

Yeah I could do that. I've got a phantom and an ion in my arsenal, and a feedblock already modeled. Should just be a matter of measuring the ion body and doing a test print.

Do you want it to use the standard phantom feed tube?

I think so... probably the best solution. I'm planning on using a reverse feedblock, if possible.

Ok. Also, are you drilling and tapping a mounting hole in the top of the ion body? I think stock ion feednecks are threaded, right? Or are they bolt on?

It's actually going on an Enmey body, so I've drilled/tapped the body already.

Ah gotcha. Is that mount hole to the rear of the feed hole then? And is the body diameter of the emek the same as the Ion?

Oh shoot - I just re-read and saw it's actually an Enmey. I have one of those too (on loan to me), I can measure it

The Ion body i have measures out at 1.225" diameter.
Here it is altered, and screw holes on both sides of the feed hole so you could mount it either direction. I could delete one of the holes if you'd rather it only mount one way or the other.

That's perfect! That way I can run rock back or forward.

The plan is to have it convertible, so I can run SC or OC. Ed Peterson is doing one last pump Ion run that I managed to get in on, and I though a SC Ion build with an Enmey body (so it's BOB) would be pretty cool, but the Phantom feedblock won't fit correctly, so getting one made to fit is going to be amazing.

Whoa! I've been trying to see if I could get in on that. Good job eeking in on that. I really just want to see how it's made. I'm pretty sure that I can replicate it if I saw the guts.

I'm still waiting to hear from Ed on when to send the frame for conversion, so I started piecing together some parts to get an idea on what I'm going to use.

So far, I've got an SP1 body, cut down Epiphany shell, an Ion frame, and the feedblock Rainmaker whipped up for me.

Still a ways to go, but it's starting to come together.

Not a huge update, but I finally got my Phantom feedtube from CCI, and then found the feedblock back after digging for a while. 🙂

Here's a mockup of the body. I'm thinking of modifying an Ion body to fit the SP1 firing can instead of making detent covers, we'll see.

Final update - I finally got the drive to finish up this project.

The plan was to use a SP1 firing can but it interferes with the pump handle, so I ended up going with the Enmey can and used a modified Epiphany body shell as a base. I had to make detent covers as well.

Looking forward to using it, though.

I’m curious too if co2 works better on a spool valve gun, simply from fact this a slow shooting pump

I ran a 12 gram through it... and got about 20 shots. I'm going to play around with the setup a bit, I wonder if the extra volume of the gas thru is affecting anything?

It was also below freezing, so warmer temps may help too.

Should be interesting to use this season.

20 sounds pretty good for that temp. CO2 behaves well at those low pressures, but you have to pay for the expansion one way or the other. Do you think the gas thru has much more than the volume of the firing can? You could toss something in it to take up the volume but I would think it's one or two shots.

Man this is a cool build. As a concept and aesthetically.
I really like the airline route as well. I might consider something like that for my sniper.

Final final update:

Got a chance to use this in a SC/magfed game and it was a blast. I do, however, want to be able to use it as an open class pump from time to time, so I picked up one of the CCI/Empire feednecks that Flyweightnate had made... got it today and after a bit of consideration figured out how I'd compensate for the larger OD of the body I'm using (compared to a Phantom).

Here it is, installed, with an ID feedneck.



I want to get a new tray printed for it so I can ditch the cut down Epiphany body, but otherwise I think I'm done. Maybe. 🙂
