Finally found one that works, and so-far-so-good ...
I am in no way affiliated, just found a useful tool and thought i would share it here.
Its a very simple tool allowing you to see the STL model in the thumbnail.
Directly from the website:
A shell extension that adds preview thumbnails for STL files to Windows Explorer. Runs on Windows 7 or later.

There is a few other cool tools on the site, but I havnt tested them myself.
