    Shapeways Out of Business

Shapeways has announced that they are filing for bankruptcy and shutting down operations. Unfortunately, this also means that the vendor I used for my storefront here is out of business since they're one and the same. It looks like I'll need to find another vendor to setup shop with.

Bummer, their quality seemed better than the others. Always a struggle though to convince buyers that the parts really are better than the typical 3d printed stuff they see on eBay.

I feel your pain. I didn't sell a lot either, but their SLS prints were on another level compared to what I used to sell off of my FDM printer. What's more irritating is that even if I did manage to find another vendor, I'd have no idea what their quality is like unless I pay them to print samples. Like in your case, this nuked my entire product line too.

I cleared around $15k, during peak emek sales I had several 3k months.

        Now my stuff is collectable!

It seems like there's a long history of the MFG.com staff ruining things. I think Shapeways bought/ was bought by MFG, and that was enough for me to steer clear.

Back in the day, I had a MFG account with the podunk company I worked for. My boss decided to have his password be a rather juvenile joke about the rep's name when he added an account, and the next day we got flooded with spam from random Chinese suppliers. That's how we learned the MFG rep could see our passwords. Nope.

Sorry to those of you this impacts, though. That's a raw deal. Fortunately it's a growing segment, but I always hate to lose a good supplier.

That sucks. I guess these days there are a lot of companies doing this so maybe they just couldn’t compete.

There are others with a marketplace to sell direct?

Dammit, I wanted a couple of the Ecap bodies, and didn't pull the trigger on. Wonder if it's still up? Gonna go check.

Yeah I thought I nuked all the links. But I pretty much explained it better on the Facebook page we have ceased operations with shapeways in their marketplace.

Not sure if it's financially smart to have things printed elsewhere because of possible stealing of ideas. So we're kind of just done for now.

That would be great. While I did not use them often I did on occasion and had always been satisfied with the results. Good luck to them relaunching.

                  Yes and no...

The new shapeways is only business to business. No marketplace or single piece printing.
