    3D printed Sheridan PMI RVA

    Hey guys, I have an old PMI 1 that I’d like to add an RVA to, and since I don’t have the tools to accurately drill and tap my stock lower tube plug I thought maybe printing one might work. Anybody tried this before, or is there any reason why it might not work?

    I don't think a 3d printed one will last.

    Every time you rack the hammer, you are side loading the grip frame screw in the rva. I feel its just too much lateral force for a 3d printed part.

    . 3d printed stuff is fine in certian situations. But a sheridan rva is not one of them.

    Why not just try dropping a bb behind your hammer spring?

      Carp. I killed a crane leaving it in the sun.

      I have no doubt the threads would hold a 1/4-28 set screw on a 3d printed cap. Its the 8/32 tapped hole that the cap relies on to capture spring tension I'd worry about.

      Stock sheridan caps are aluminum. And they wear out from the rear cap micro rocking over time. A 3d printed one will likely ejecto into your face mask in short order.

      The krane also has the advantage of moment arm. It friction fits into your rva hole, and extends all the way to the front frame screw. All of these factors help a 3d printed part displace energy.

      An exact replica of the sheridan rear cap, slightly beefed up as an RVA wouldn't work.

      I remember the warning about car heat and the extended direct sunlight on it. That was definitely always a concern. I thought the Krain was meant to be a temporary less expensive option to try before, making the bigger investment of a metal K-frame. Using a printed standard Sheridan RVA would be a risk not worth taking with safer options available, for sure.

      I think the Krain was just a cad challenge that rainmaker wanted to prove to himself he could best.

      Plenty of them still kicking. But yeah, left my hammer locked, and set mine on a table. Went to play a game, and the sun came over the horizon.

      But the time I got back the hammer pressing the sear bent the whole shebang.

      I should have specified that I would use threaded inserts and nylon fiber, which holds up pretty well in my experience. I just wasn't sure if the spring tension would be too great regardless. Like I said, I don't have the tools to drill and tap my rear cap, so I was trying to figure something out that's within my means to build. I'll keep looking around online for an aftermarket RVA instead, thanks for the input folks.
