First try at anodizing a complete gun

Picked this trilogy pro up on craigslist for 50 bucks about a year ago, has been sitting so I decided to add some character to it. This was my first attempt at anodizing a whole gun, it's far from perfect but I'm happy with the way it turned out! Click image for larger version

Its really pretty easy, especially if you're just doing single colors like black. It just requires a lot of patience which is not really my strong suit

KMDPB how? iv been building myself a ano setup and with just getting all of the different containers for dye, lye, acid bath, bleach, desmut, etc i've probably spent $150. thats not counting the power supply, dyes themselves, battery acid, and agitation pump for the bath.

jetenginekyle for containers I use 5 gallon bucks which I can get for free, dye I use rit which is super cheap, sulfuric acid is expensive if you buy it as battery acid but I buy this one type of drain cleaner that is 98% sulfuric acid, doesnt say it on the bottle tho, believe it's called kleens. Lye can also be bought as drain cleaner cheap. About the only thing I had to buy from an ano supplier was desmut

Mark if you decide you want to try doing some home ano I would be willing to pitch some money in for the setup.

Was the white parts intentional? Or happy accident? Either way it looks great, better than some "professional" shops jobs I've seen

..... So..... You open for business?

I use finger nail polish, everything I've read online says to use rubber cement but it was a nightmare trying to remove that stuff! I tried every solvent in the book! The nail polish works great, dries quick and comes off super easy with acetone. The only down side is there doenst seem to be a way to buy it in bulk but I just get cheap stuff from dollar store.

That's awesome. Let me know next time you do a batch of black. I've got some homemade parts that could use it.

Trbo323 You caught me! It was an accident on the first part but I decided I liked it so I did the whole gun the same way.
I could probably do some ano for some guys on here but dont have the time to do it as a business, also I'm not completely confident in my ability

Well if you ever need some test bodies I usually have some cheap spiders that I'm fixing up and I don't care what color they end up or anything you can have free reign to try whatever you want

Another ano I did on a paintgun I put together for a buddy. I call this one solar flare. Interested in making an anodizing portfolio here on mcb but I am unaware if or where the place to do so would be.
