So I've had this bright red Bandana mask for a bit now, and I never really liked the odd shade of bright pastel red it was. I also wanted a team colored mask. So I dyed it using a custom blend of Saphire blue and Royal purple. I even faded the lense with purple. Since our colors include gold, I threw on my spare gold strap. I also threw my clear lense for my Stormtrooper mask into the bath just for fun, and it came out so deep, I could hear "Smoke on the Water" playing in my head.

I'm so happy with this build, I'm just waiting on some custom hardware to finish it off.

Can the dye negatively affect the lense? Never thought of dying them, cool idea.

Yeah that doesn't sound as valid as I hoped. But there is a page dedicated to dying masks and lenses. Tons of great information there.

For the lense, my bath never exceeded 140*F (60*C) and I repeatedly dipped the lenses, then cooled off in cold water. The lense never exceeded temperatures higher than they would see just sitting in my Jeep in July. I repeated this process until it was dark enough for my liking. The dye doesn't go very far into the plastic, just on the surface.

The Empire lense is cheap, so I'll fire rounds at it for science. That was more of a test to see how deep the color would go, even though that still could only have gotten to 140*F or less, since I just threw that lense in to soak after I did the fade lense. I have better thermal lenses for that mask that I prefer to use anyway.

I took a shot to the lense in 5*F weather, no problem at all

That came out really nice.much better color than the red. The gold band ties it together nicely.

Wait until you see it in person. The red base definitely makes the purple pop in daylight.
