So I know the mod 85 used primers as propellant, do you think a standard .68 could tolerate a ramset cartridge?

Forgive me. But why? For the simple question, can I? Okay, I can see the point. But understand there is no velocity control, and you have, in many places, ventured into a firearms issue.
That being said, even the lowest powered charge has more propellent than a primer cap and would probably be too strong. Remember, even the lowest charge shell is designed to force a steel pin into concrete.

Not like I've ever tried but my brain says probably not

I have ZERO hands on experience with the MOD-85 [though almost bought one back in '89]. As already stated a Ramset round would be way too aggressive for a paintball. There are low pressure primers made one used in muzzle loaders is a 209 by in the past Remington. If I were you I would look at low pressure primers and find some MOD-85 "rounds" and do a little reverse engineering. I've been out of the reloading and muzzle loader game for quite a while but that is the community I would comb for low energy possibilities for resurrecting a MOD-85.

The general consensus years ago was that the Federal Government does not consider the Para-Ordnance MOD-85 as a Firearm due to the statement, "The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) defines firearms as weapons that fire a bullet with an explosive reaction." and according to the ATF a Paintball is not a "bullet". I have never heard their take on Reballs so I would avoid using them.

i do understand that its a lot of unrestrained power and i was looking to toy around with a launcher that would fire down a few barrels with a few rounds loaded into each barrel which I know is a lot to consider, I figure if I fork off the shell with three barrels placed equally , harnessing the power may not be so difficult, i think the initial pressure could be tamped down with either air restriction or perhaps sabots down the barrel. anyway, ive been iup for a while and need to get rest.
