Has anyone here drilled carbon fiber tube? I'm looking at a fairly large hole and I want to make sure im not either wasting the tube or risking health issues.

From what I've been told by the guy that makes carbon fiber automag bodies for me.- Don't breathe the dust, mask up
- Splinters from it are nasty and painful.
- the dust is abrasive as hell and will destroy equipment
- It wears tooling fast.
As far as how to cut and drill I know he uses a diamond cutoff saw for cutting to length. I've done similar with a diamond dremel cuting wheel for a foregrip tube i needed to shorten. I dont remember what tooling he uses to cut the slots/holes. -
I've cut quite a bit of carbon fiber tubing with a normal hack saw blade. They do make special blades for carbon fiber. I've drilled a few holes with normal drill bits but they've all been on the smaller side, maybe 1/4" at the largest. Wetting the part to help keep the dust down. Depending on how big of a hole you have to drill I'd go with a step bit.Red OneComment

Use water while drilling/sanding to avoid airborne dust.
Wear gloves and long sleeves, carbon splinters go into your skin and get itchy. If it doesn't have the [F] i don't want it. - EuropoorComment
