Wood pump Sterling - first pass

I had a free afternoon this weekend and some cherry boards, so I mocked up a wooden pump handle. Cherry obviously isn't the right choice for something so thin, but wanted to test the design/ process before making an order on a better hardwood.

Any recommendations? Not sure I want to get into resin stabilizing yet. African mahogany is near the top of the list, just for availability/ cost for a workable but split resistant option.

      That’s cool, I like it!

How hard would it be to use the same concept but make it out of G10?

I would pay handsomely for one made out of this type material.

I like G10 but it's murderous to bits. I ran some 1911 panels in a G10/neoprene laminate and realized quickly I was pushing the machine too hard on my other, smaller CNC. The bit dulled from the glass, then stuck on the rubber... but I digress.

I might give Richlite or micarta a try first, cellulose instead of glass, then get some coated bits. $45 a bit, though, so I'm gonna want to be 100% I know how to run it right.

Is that G10 available in half inch sheets?

I just thought that Material looked cool. Didn’t realize it was so hard to cut. I actually thought it cut like wood. Probably not the best material then for the application. Likely why you don’t see it used.

Yeah, people come up with some cool patterns in it. I've been looking for a similar cast acrylic look but the people who make neat patterns evidently aren't good at SEO since I can never find them!
