    Cerakote for Tippmann A5

I broke out my Tippmann A5 after a long time and discovered it finish was badly corroded. The paint just flakes off. I am getting back into paintball and want to restore it to her former glory. I have looked at multiple options and am really interested in cerakote.

Has anyone used cerakote on their receiver shells? If so, can anyone show me how their cerakote turned out and let me know and the pros and cons with their experience.

    Thanks

I have not Cerakoted a 98 frame, but I have had other cast aluminum parts done, and they Cerakote well if the applicator preps/cleans well first. If I were to do a cast aluminum Tippman, I would go with Cerakote first, then powder coat as a second choice. Just like traditional paint Cerakote is only as good as the prep and cleanliness of base material.

Thanks for the info. I spoke with a local Cerakote guy. He recommended sandblasting and then doing a pre-bake to wick any remaining oil out.

Yeah this is haha. I was thinking about doing a rattle can duracoat kit, but this one has some sentimental value. I want it to come out good and last. That’s what made me think of Cerakote.

I haven’t cerakoted a Tippmann, but I do do a CCM. (Not exactly cast aluminum). You shouldn’t see any issues with it adhering (i also did my acrylic pump handle with no issues) , it’ll bake on to pretty much anything. Some of my parts were anodized, some raw, some nickeled etc…looking at it (even closely) you’d never know. I would just make sure you clean the oxidation off really good before spraying and baking

This marker is my main shooter, I play primarily in the woods/rocks/mounds. I’m not “good” to it and I have had minimal scrapes/wear…the only spot with “damaged is the point of the top tube has a bit of wear

Others can chime in, but your only “concern” is tha cerakoting builds the surface. Make sure screw holes and mating surfaces are protected properly. It’ll take a little longer to reassemble than an anodized marker.., you might need to wet sand some parts to get them to fit properly.

i say go for it, I was very hesitant to get mine done, and have been thrilled with the results.

Forgot to mention..I also did a set of CCM fittings to match this marker, but they no longer hold air now. I think the cerakote won’t allow the Orings to seal properly, but I’m not sure….I ended up adding the braided hose and never looked back.

Man that thing looks badass. I am looking to do FDE and I will be happy with just decent haha. I plan on using it pretty often which is why I am looking for something durable. Thanks for the info.

Thanks everyone for the insights. I turned it into my local Cerakote guy. I wish I could do it myself but I don’t have any of the equipment to do it. I will let you know the results and post pics when I get it back.

I got the A5 receiver shells back from the local Cerakote guy and they came out great! There is some pitting from the previous corrosion, but overall it’s exactly what I wanted.
