    Carbon fiber tank mugs

Thankfully I know a guy with a saw
now I need to figure out the rest of it. JBWeld will probably do the trick for attaching the bottle necks to the bottoms for a base. Next steps are handles and sanding/sealing any rough edges

I don't think, I'd care to drink out of one but they'd make a cool custom trophy with an engraved plate attached and a double handle. Just saying... I still need to order my lamp making stuff for my dead tanks.

Worth noting that you can get aluminum poisoning drinking out of aluminum cups. It probably should be coated with something.

This. Yes, aluminum can form an oxide layer. But aluminum is a porous material that can retain and leech out contaminated liquids into your drink.

What is aluminum poisoning? As far as I know, there's no concern with ingesting small quantites of aluminum (https://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/toxfaqs/tfacts22.pdf)

I'd be more concerned about the carbon fiber and/or fiberglass, particularly after cutting the through the epoxy and exposing the fibers.

Aluminum reacts to quite a lot of things in the world, their products are usually not safe to consume. I'd recommend looking into long term, food safe, aluminum treatments so not to accidentally poison yourself or others.

Do you have any sources about aluminum poisoning? I'm genuinely interested in any data available. This is a topic that I've seen come up a lot recently but haven't seen any evidence or papers about it. Which doesn't mean that it is safe, since lead and mercury were also thought to be safe at some point.

But the reactivity of aluminum doesn't necessarily mean it's unsafe. Lead is less reactive than aluminum and oxygen is more reactive than both. Nitrogen is also unreactive and can still kill you under specific circumstances.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aluminium#Biology Look through the citations. Its all about bio-availability.

Another thing that was not mentioned is how aluminum reacts to acidic foods, like carbonated drinks. Beer cans are coated with an expoxy to prevent the carbonic acid from eating away at the metal.

I knew about the beer can (and soda can, and basically every drink can) coating to prevent the can from dissolving.

But your linked article says the opposite of what you're saying and that there's no harmful risk in normal quantities of ingested aluminum.

Maybe you can source a stainless steel insert with a lip that covers over the cut edge of the bottle. A liner would also allow you to use a sturdy, bolted connection for the handles and then hide the fasteners. I see a lot of epoxy or resin mugs on Amazon/Etsy like this.

I like this idea. I’ll see what I can find.
