I'd kinda stepped away from paintball between 2012 and 2026 and, upon my sorta return, I keep reading that paint has gotten smaller. From I could make out paint is less .68cal and more .67cal nowadays. This got me thinking about barrel kits, in particular the Freak and iFit. Does anyone make smaller bore sizers for these kits? Or, have any of the machinists on MCB tried in the past but found that it isn't worth doing for one reason or another?
That brings the follow up questions... How much smaller has paint gotten? Freak (regular and XL) goes down to .677 and iFit goes down to .667 so what bore sizes would be appropriate for the "next 2 to 3 sizes down"? And would anyone be interested in these smaller bore sizers? I know I would be even though I'm not even able to go and play anymore. "It's better to have and not need than to need and not have" because, well, I'd missed out on a lot of paintball stuff that has gone since I'd stepped away. Back in 2012 I'd expected the 'indestructible' Tippmann A5s, 98s and X7s to practically be around forever and they're basically extinct now so who knows what bits will still be around in a year or two?
Lastly, if someone were to make smaller inserts, what material is the preference? I know aluminium would be the most common to use but I'd prefer stainless steel if given a choice. Oh, who am I kidding? TBH I'd probably buy both as I have a set of each Freak boremaster kits. In fact, if someone were to make a stainless steel iFit boremaster kit I'd probably buy it to match my Freaks.
