    Homemade paintball barrel?

I've been doing research on how to make my luxe quieter and got into a discussion with a friend that does a lot of custom wood projects. Before I get off topic. Has anyone ever made a wooden barrel for paintball. My friend suggested a cork lined barrel front for the freak kit and it got my gears turning a little bit. Has anyone ever heard of such a proposition?

I've seen 3d printed freak barrels, but wood?! Interesting proposition...

If my printed barrels are a good indication, I can say that the toughest parts will be getting the threading just right and not stripping out. It's an interesting thought experiment though.

Just make an aluminum sleeve thats threaded and glue it on.

Yes it would have to have an aluminum insert for the threads.
the thought was for sound dampening. Softer materials absorb sound better (making a quieter shot as gas leaving the barrel is absorbed). The idea of making this part of the barrel construction is so there is no "silencer" and making shots super quiet (sub 65 db) without having to worry about getting attention of the atf

Wood might not be the best choice only for the fact that it is definitely going to be subject to weather conditions. It's going to warp, shrink, expand or crack eventually. I like the idea but it's not going to last. It would definitely make a nice barrel for a wall hangar though.

Seriously though you could probably do it, but you should stabilize the wood first.

is that just epoxy? it sounds like epoxy... if so, OP may as well make it out of plastic.

I think stabilizing the wood would make it denser and defeat the purpose. I could be wrong. I would be more concerned about the inner bore being too rough to not break the shell or deteriorate after a while. Maybe use an insert for the control bore or have a wood tip to work with a Freak back.

Years ago I’ve thought about trying pvc pipes for barrels. I know it’s not the best, but bending the barrel for trick shots or shenanigans was the reason. PVC is not as dense as aluminum and can take threads. Not sure how fine of threads, but it’s cheap and already has a hole in the middle.

My first thought was taking a dive and it go wrong and you take a core sample break the wooden tip and you end up getting stabbed by it

Wooden the bore change with the weather?
