Well, mostly.

Got everything finished off - the valve work (ported main vent hole/plugged extra holes), polished the inside of the breech, barrel end, and lower tube, cleaned up the solder joints and beadblasted again - and did the final assembly after work.

I managed to wait a whole two hours before I couldn't take it anymore and decided to run a 12gram through it - and it works. 🙂 Except for the Instapierce setup I made - the infamous EV seal material issues struck again, and I couldn't get a 12gram to seal properly. The seal's too hard, I think, and I had a pretty decent leak from it.

I peeled it out (what an ordeal!) and swapped in a Sheridan face seal, but I'm out of 12ies so I'll have to grab another box soon so I can verify my repair. If I can't get it to seal I'll have to convert it back to shoot-to-pierce. OR, I need to resolder the valve core - hopefully not.

Otherwise, it's done... two brass projects down, two more to go. 🙂

On your conversion to the CCI instapierce, did you counter bore the hole at all? I found that attaching the instapierce to the flat face gave me more leaks than if the assembly was counter bored.

No counter bore... I loc-tited it in without the oring.

It's entirely possible I'm not square as well... I'm using a janky drillpress that's seen better days and a cheapy vice that doesn't clamp all that well. 🙂

The seal material seemed pretty hard, though - it might work with a bucket changer where you can always tighten it a bit more, but the Quiksilver relies on spring pressure to hold the 12ie against the face seal so I think I need a softer seal material. We'll see how the new seal holds up.

I did find a couple 12 grams in my gear bag this morning so I'll try again tonight after work... worst case I swap to a shoot to pierce setup, I just prefer the look of a Squall with a Quiksilver setup.

Tried one more 12ie after work and no bueno - small leak around the base of the 12gram at the seal.

I'm almost positive the pierce pin is crooked - I think the hole I drilled is off-square and so I don't have a nice flat face to seal against.

That's good news - it'll still work, I just need to find someone to modify a chamber plug properly and it'll work - and bad news - I have to run a shoot-to-pierce setup for now.

But... shoot-to-pierce works! I ran some paint through it before it got too dark to see, and it seems to work great. I suspect I'll be lucky to get over 20 shots off a 12ie but I'm pretty good with that. 🙂

Looks great, may be self explanatory question but is the difference between shoot to pierce and ready pierce?

Shoot-to-pierce - 12gram is punctured by a pierce pin attached to the cupseal. You have to cock the gun and pull the trigger to slam the pin into the seal and pierce it.

Instapierce - pierce pin is built into the chamber plug. As you tighten down the 12gram knob, the seal is punctured and you're ready to go.

I prefer an Instapierce setup over STP purely for the few steps involved in getting the 12gram punctured, at least on a semi.

I had exactly 10 paintballs left in a bag on my shelf (if you can call them "balls," they were more egg shaped than round), so I attempted a shooting video.

I'm very thankful I managed to hit something with my first shot because the second round was a winger, and then I had mostly barrel breaks after that... probably should have gone up a size on the insert.
