As weird as that is it actually kind of makes sense to me. Weren't the stock ion regs know to have pressure spikes that would crack the shitty plastic solenoid? With how many gauges are on this you could set the maxflows to your desired operating pressure, and set the stock regulator 5 psi above the maxflows, essentially reducing it to a "pressure safety" that only kicked in if the maxflow failed. With all the guages you would immediately know if either of the regs failed and needed to be replaced, thus protecting that shitty plastic solenoid for many years of play. Not the worst solution to getting a longer life out of these.
